MOVE STAY OR DISAPPEAR
An outcome of a 6-week residency at CAMP in Chuim village Khar, a continuing dialogue with each other and with the studio.
Rabiul Khan Rabiul khan an artist of this residency & member of UTHON, invokes multiple temporary layers: spaces, forms & people. Via an alternative process of mapping through collected clothes and conversations from the locality, Rabiul has created a flying 'Shamiana' full of questions. In Santiniketan he is building a new space for art and community experimentation.
Rabiul shared - "During my time in Mumbai I have built relationships with some local people of the surrounding communities, for example the women of
Aglawe family of Koli community and Rajni OmSingh Sisade who was our cook and house help in this residency. My temporary existence and engagement in this place contributes to the changes and making of this extended map; this extension portrays those uncertainties that happen regularly here. In this big city what can be considered as a temporary space. When we are talking about uncertainty or the temporary nature of the people who migrate to this place for work or livelihood, like myself - how can
these kinds of situations, events generate discussions, conversations in a metropolitan city like this, where a basic reason for coming here is most of the time for work and earning. In these narrations of continuous moving and shifting, what is permanency, who are Permanent in the context of this big place mumbai; a place that is built by
multiple temporality itself."
