Directed by Sujeeth, They Call Him OG (or simply OG) is a high-octane,
ultra-stylish Telugu gangster action thriller that centers on Ojas
Gambheera (played by Pawan Kalyan), a legendary mob boss known as
the "Original Gangster." After vanishing from the criminal underworld
for a decade, he resurfaces in Mumbai to protect his loved ones and
settle unfinished business with a ruthless rival gang, led by an
antagonist played by Emraan Hashmi. Deeply influenced by Japanese
pop culture and a sleek John Wick-style aesthetic, the film relies
heavily on powerful fan-service moments, large-scale action
sequences, a pounding background score by S. Thaman, anda John
Wick-meets-Samurai vibe. Despite some criticism for having a thin plot
that favors visuals over deep drama, the movie crushed the box office
upon its late 2025 release, raking in over 300 crores and quickly
cementing plans for a highly anticipated sequel.
