Two worlds. One of wild green whispers, the other of quiet remembrance.

On the left, a forest that breathes life.
On the right, a museum that remembers it.

Smritivan brings together nature and memory in one powerful journey.

Heavy rain and intense thunderstorms lashed parts of Delhi-NCR on Thursday, bringing respite from days of scorching heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert initially but later elevated it to a red warning as skies turned dark, followed by strong winds and the spell of heavy rain.

At the Smritivan Earthquake Memorial & Museum, the ancient craft of Ajrakh became a medium for storytelling. Guided by themes of Banni, cyclones, tsunamis, desert landscapes, and the rhythms of day and night, artisans and designers worked together to create textile panels that speak of Kutch, its environment, and its resilience.

Led by Dr. Ismail Khatri, a ninth-generation Ajrakh artisan, this collaboration reimagined a 4,500-year-old tradition in a new way, where cloth becomes a canvas for memory, nature, and lived experience.

Behind every craft is a story. Behind every story is a craftsperson. At the Smritivan Earthquake Memorial & Museum, the narrative was never meant to overshadow the craft, nor the craft the narrative. Together, they create a language that is uniquely rooted in Kutch.

One such example is the remarkable Rogan Art installation created by master artisan Jabbar Khatri and his team. Spanning 2.5 × 4 metres, the artwork is a milestone in the history of Rogan art, blending forests, nature, and the cosmos into a single composition. A tradition carried forward for over 400 years meets a contemporary museum narrative, proving that heritage continues to evolve while staying true to its roots.

A collaboration where storytelling, craftsmanship, and culture come together as one.
