Leading today's top headlines is the uproar that erupted in Lucknow during a bulldozer operation. Lawyers staged a vigorous protest against the demolition drive taking place outside the District and Civil Court complex in the Kaiserbagh area. A team from the Municipal Corporation had arrived to demolish 240 illegal chambers belonging to the lawyers. Outside the Registry Office, the lawyers blocked the path of both the bulldozers and the municipal team. Amidst a heavy police deployment, the illegal chambers and shops—which had been constructed on the road and over drains outside the court premises—were demolished. When the administrative team did not halt their operation despite the lawyers' protests, the lawyers staged a sit-in directly on the road. To prevent the demolition of their chambers, the lawyers stood directly in front of the municipal team; consequently, the police were compelled to resort to a lathi-charge (baton charge) to disperse the lawyers and bring the situation under control.
