ZAFAR NADAF | THE POETRY OF COLLAGE
Some artists paint what they see.
Some photograph what catches their eye.
And some collect fragments of the world and give them a completely new life.
Zafar Nadaf is a collage artist whose visual language has evolved through years of observation, experimentation and an intimate relationship with images.
For Zafar, collage is not simply the act of cutting and pasting. It is a way of thinking.
A fragment of a photograph.
A piece of printed paper.
A colour.
A pattern.
A face.
A building.
A shadow.
A remembered moment.
These fragments become the vocabulary from which he constructs new images.
Looking through his body of work, one can sense a continuous conversation between photography, architecture, abstraction, human figures, symbolism and everyday life.
His own surroundings appear not merely as a backdrop, but as part of his artistic journey—the spaces he inhabits, the structures he observes, the changing light, shadows and details that might otherwise pass unnoticed.
There is also a poetic quality to his practice.
His collage compositions often feel like visual poems: fragmented, layered and open to interpretation. Nothing needs to be explained completely. An image can remain partly mysterious, allowing the viewer to complete the story.
From his early explorations of collage to more experimental compositions, Zafar's journey reflects a sustained curiosity about how an image can be dismantled and rebuilt into something unexpected.
His work reminds us that the ordinary is rarely ordinary when we learn to look closely.
A lifetime of looking.
A collection of fragments.
A language made from paper, image and memory.
This is the world of Zafar Nadaf.
