Fiction - What's a good story worth?

Great fiction is one which weaves seamlessly with the real world and blurs out the line between two.

In this picture.

Bridge of Clay - By the author of 'The Book Thief', this book dwelves in the life of 5 sons trying to find answers to past, in hopes for a better future.

The Parisian - A story set in World War 1, taking us through paths of our lead character and portraying the world back then.

The mermaid & Mrs. Hancock - The story of a Merchant and his turn of luck which brings him in contact with a real life mermaid and the story just unfolds from there.

I like big books & I like small books.

Every story has an optimal length. Some stories would require only 100 pages while others may go well over 1000.
And often authors find the optimal length for their story. Adding unnecessary details or removing a great story arc often derails a book.

Sleeping beauties : It's a collaboration between stephenvking and his son owen king. While I'm a big fan of stephen king, this one was a miss for me. Didn't live up to my expectations.

The old man and the sea: This small book writes itself on multiple levels and each level of it is beautiful. This short story leaves you with a feeling that grows over time. And once you are done reading this book, I'll strongly suggest to go through it's wiki

World War II stories are bound to be heart crunching and presents a picture which showcases the worst humanity has to offer.

And even in such stories, the authors try to find those smallest glimmer of hope, and presents the human capability to bring out their best even in worst of situations.

About the books in the picture

The tattoist of Auschwitz is a real life story of a tattoist in concentration camps. The story in itself is heart wrenching and brings you to tears.

All the light we cannot see is one of those books that does the job of building up a story to a level of perfection. In this historical fiction, we travel through two stories throughout the book and see different yet same experiences they both carry.

Ahh classics!!!!

To be able to write a story that transcends decades and still grips readers to this day, that's the power of a great classic. What are some of your favorite classics.

The adventures of huckleberry finn by Mark Twain is one of the most important books in history for its portrayal of racism at a time when it was a norm.

The diary of a young girl is a book that leaves you thinking how can a teenage girl write something so powerful and at points in the book, you hope it's a fiction but when you realize that's it an autobiography, it breaks your heart even more.

I think it would be fair to say Agatha Christie has been the gatekeeper for the detective novels. Most of her work has done a brilliant job in compelling and intriguing stories that keeps you guessing till the very last chapter.

So which of her books is your favorite?

Personally I'm a big fan of "And then there were none" - A story of 10 people being stranded on an Island and story just goess all the places from there.

Do you keep multiple editions of the same book?

For me there are only few books that i would want to have multiple editions and one of them is Wuthering Heights.

Both the covers look just so beautiful. And the blue one is one of my most prized possession.

It’s a part of a series called Season's edition and I'm looking forward to collect more books in this series.

And for people who don't know - Wuthering heights is one of the most tragic love stories of all time. And it is a story that grows more and more on you over time.

Have you read it?

These 3 books are one of my initial purchases. And i got this special hardcover editions from my local crosswords.

All the 3 books are marvelous and intriguing. Reflecting society in their own ways and putting up a different narrative in each of the story.

All the three stories have become very much a staple of classics favorites.

And if you haven't read any of them. This will be a good beginning.

The 2nd most expensive book I have turns out to be a comic.
This Dark Noir edition of The Dark Knight Returns is absolutely breathtaking. The stories, thr artwork and the noir theme gels in so well together that it becomes very difficult to imagine this in any other way.

And along with that, I've bought a few comics throughout the years but clearly Batman has stayed my favorite for long

These DK publishing house encyclopedias are a great starting point to each of the fields of psychology, philosophy and literature. All these fields are generally intriguing to every person in some sense, but often the trouble lies in where to start. As the text on these topics are often academic and not easy to follow through.

These 3 books dwell into history of each of the topic, while maintaining a tone that keeps you intrigued. And the topics in itself is something which will make you wnat to read more and more.

So if you are interested in any of the fields, these books are highly recommended.

So to complete this series brings a calm to me. Maybe some of the things I said made sense, maybe some didn't. But i do believe in each and every line I said. I try to follow everything I say as much as possible, and sometimes I don't and that's ok as well.

This marks 2 years of flowersfromabrook. And it has been wonderful writing do many things and see people liking them. It has been an honor.

This also marks that I'm not 25 anymore. This year has not been kind to most of us, but let's see where our roads are leading. And at this point, let's just hope for a better future.

I want to say a special thanks to my dear friend for suggesting me to write this series. Always cherishing you.

When you lost your fav toy at the age of 3. When you didn't get good marks in your exam. When you had your heart broken for the very first time. When you didn't get the college you wished. When you didn't get that job you always wanted. When love betrayed you again.

Each of these moments presented a pain we never thought we would be able to live through until we get through to the next one. Every moment feels like a burden. The spaces in-between feels empty. The days are as dark as night. And the nights lose their serene calm. And in those moments you are looking fir the path to walk on.

But just as all the pain and heartbreaks you have suffered till now, you can fight through this. Coz along all the pain and misery, there is also a lot of happiness and joy that we often overlook just beacuse it is inherent in our nature.

No matter what is happening in life, new paths can be paved at any time, existing paths can be carved in new directions, and sometimes it's even ok to go off-road.

Remember whatever happens, there will always be miles to go before you decide to sleep.

And this is just a little homage to my favorite poet - Robert Frost

This also brings the current series to a close.
I want to thank every person who gave these a read.

Writing a good rhyme in poetry is one of the hardest thing to do. A good rhyme needs to be invisible as well as to stand out at the same time. A rhyme is more than just a single word, sometimes it holds the whole verses or even the whole poems.

And in a similar contrast a lot of great things we do in life are never noticed to the level we aspire to be noticed. So many great moments in life fizzle out and people don't notice and often these moments are the ones which shape our life. And just like great rhymes they are often left unnoticed.
