The Bangalore Men – India’s premier all-male voices ensemble, was launched in January of 2016, and consists of 22 singers, all with many years of previous experience singing in choirs. The group focuses on Western classical music, from eras ranging from medieval music to contemporary, and was founded by, and is conducted by Jonas Olsson, faculty at The Bangalore School of Music. Since the start of
the choir, they have done over 80 concerts all over the country in concert halls, churches and cathedrals – and performed for audiences in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Mysore, Kochi, Hyderabad, Trivandrum and Goa – apart from the home base in Bangalore
Their repertoire spans over music from several centuries, and the focus is on the vast Western classical choral repertoire. More than bringing high-quality Western classical music in various concerts and performances, the aim of the group is also to preserve the heritage this music is, and also to give the members a holistic approach to singing in choir, including music history, music theory and vocal techniques. The group is coached by one of Scandinavia’s most sought-after vocal coaches, Ms Maria Forsström (Sweden).
