Sometimes calm isn’t about making something beautiful.

Sometimes it’s just about being held—by a cool, forgiving lump of earth—until you’re ready to shape again. 🌱

This 9 year old child's mother has been away for a few months now; tending to a personal emergency. Though she is usually articulate in her work - clear forms, neat ideas (Folded clothes, footwear placed just right, a suitcase packed with intention), today she found comfort not in shaping, but in unshaping.

She squished the clay. Making it soft. Softer. Until it turned mushy between her fingers.

Often, it happens without us realising. The hands move before the mind catches up.

Clay meets something unspoken, and slowly, subconsciously, it begins to soothe.

Mixed-age pottery sessions: more than just clay 🧡

One of my favourite things about our studio is watching kids of different ages create together. They come in to work with clay, but what they actually build goes far beyond pottery.

They share tools, make space for each other at the table, celebrate each other’s little wins, and learn how to be part of a group that isn’t all the same age.

What’s even more beautiful is the conversation that flows between them — the easy chatter, the curious questions, the random stories. These small interactions quietly strengthen social skills in a way no worksheet can.

Clay is just the excuse.

The real learning is in communication, collaboration, and the warm, natural social skills that grow when children of different ages create side by side.

And that’s the magic we witness every week in the studio. ✨
