Katha Galatta

Katha Galatta KathaGalatta is here to rekindle the joy for oral storytelling and help leverage the power of stories How would life be without stories?

Would it be an ideal childhood without the talking monkeys, lions dressed in suits or the Fairy Godmother, her magic wand and sprinkles of stardust that makes wishes come true? What is culture or history if not tales told over generations, values and beliefs passed on through shared experiences or past memories? How long can we survive the reality without escaping into the world of imagination and

ingenuity? Don’t you think it’s indeed true that without stories, we are almost nothing! And that’s where KATHA GALATTA steps in. KATHA GALATTA – Unleash Ur Joy Thru’ Stories is a storytelling initiative founded by Performance Storyteller Meenu Sivaramakrishnan in the year 2017. It is a humble attempt to rekindle the joy for oral storytelling and help leverage the power of stories in learning and development as we truly believe that, while stories are entertaining, they are enriching too.

Exam time for some…
Vacation mode for others…!

And me? Wondering…
Will the session happen?
Will I have my audience? 🤔

Doubts, questions, a few challenges along the way…
But one thing I never doubt—the magic of stories :)

And what better time than mango season?
Theme of the day: MANGO MANIA!

When the D-day arrived… so did my wonderful audience !

What followed?
Stories, songs, laughter, and a few fun moves—
Not just for the little ones, but the parents joined in too!

Because some moments aren’t just enjoyed…
they’re cherished.

It is heart-warming to see even the elders, not just the parents of the kids but others too who have come to casually spend the time at the store, not just stop but also stand/sit through the entire reading session and enjoy the story!

Well... what can I say?
I think it already says it all, is it not ? :)

The World Storytelling Day Swap was announced by FEAST.

Well, I did not have anything interesting to share on "Light in the Dark" theme. But then, destiny had something for me... I think it was more than a week later as I was reading, I came across this simple yet amusing folktale from Karnataka and I could see the "light in the dark" :)

Yes! I got my story and I applied for the FEAST telling.

Again... destiny had something else for me. I was on "stand-by"

hmmm... so was really not sure if I was going to actually tell my story at the event.

D-Day arrived. Somehow, that day morning, a thought struck,

"What if I try something different... something fun?"

Well, I was still not sure if I was going to tell... yet i know my preparations will never go waste... I got excited!

I decided to do it a musical one... i collected and even 'created' my instruments :)

Created the frames in my mind as to what I want to do, how I want to do... rehearsed it twice and there I was at the session, all set ... still not sure if I will be telling...

And I waited... waited... waited... as I listened to stories shared by others. And finally, i got the message "Meenu... you will be next"

"My Light in the Dark" moment, should I say??? 😜

Woohooo!!!!

I was literally jumping ...

The next moment I was singing and then the story unfolded with music, sound effects , singing and rapping :)

A new style... a new experience...

As I saw all eyes glued to the screen and the heart emojis flying here and there followed by the lovely messages on the chat box as well as personal dms :)

Thank you FEAST Roger Shraddha and all those who shared your appreciation.

Special thanks to Shraddha for capturing the moments.

And ofcourse grateful to Jeeva for taking time out to watch my performance and give her feedback too :)

March 8th, the International Women's Day was observed this year by sharing and listening to stories!

Thanks to Vriksh and Renu Narayan for inviting me to be part of this special storytelling event "Strong Women of Modern India".

As I listened to some powerful stories by Renu, Lavanya Prasad and Lavanya Srinivas, it was indeed a pleasure to share the story of Asia's fastest woman Quad blade runner!

Thank you to all those who had joined us!

Truly a pleasure ride it was at BLF-CLF this year :)

I was delighted to be doing a session at the Children's lit fest as part of Bangalore Literature Festival at Freedom Park last Sunday.

My session "Story-Ga-.Ma" was a musical, interactive and multi-lingual storytelling where I used a smattering of all 4 south Indian languages. It was fun experimenting and trying out new elements and when you know the audience is receiving it well, you only want to give more... and that's exactly what happened too!

Amazing audience... not just the little ones but the adults too joined in the fun - giggling, shaking, singing and swaying!

And when a few from the audience quickly run up to you to share their appreciation and even take a quick pic... awwww.... words cannot describe the feeling!!!

Thanks to Vikram Sridhar , Atta Galatta and the team :)

It was wonderful meeting friends from the storytelling community.
