* Wikipedia says performances are anything that people find entertaining—acrobatics, animal tricks, balloon twisting, caricatures, clowning, comedy, contortions, escapology, dance, singing, fire skills, flea circus, fortune-telling, juggling, magic, mime, living statue, musical performance, puppeteering, snake charming, storytelling or reciting poetry or prose, street art such as sketching and painting, street theatre, sword swallowing, and ventriloquism.
Whew! That’s a long list. And I can’t do any of those things. But wait, something’s missing in the list. Something I can do.
On the eve of Christmas, in 2017, I went out into the world with my typewriter — Machina — and all the paper in the world. I sat outside a little bookshop and started typing.
I’ve been doing the same every weekend since then. I talk to strangers and write to them. I write poems, letters, and postcards. I made a few friends on the street. It’s a great way of discovering people and stories.
