We all know that the arts prompt divergent thinking, creativity, imagination and curiosity. The arts connect with emotions. Hence, a powerful medium through which to talk about topics that may seem uncomfortable, both for the adult and the child. Therefore, the arts are fundamentally essential in a child's life.
Wednesday and Thursday were spent in a seminar on theatre for children, with theatre makers, writers, pedagogues, educators and children themselves, at Ranga Shankara as part of the for Children 2022. We spoke about theatre for children, what it means in the performance space and in education and how we can make theatre for children a process by which children take the agency in the process of creating work for them as well as their learning process, and a lot lot more.
The ensuing discussion led us to reflect on our own practice at Aakaara. Our weekly sessions with young people give them the platform to voice their thoughts and ideas and be the agents in taking our sessions forward. Get in touch with us to know more about our sessions with children of the age group 5 to 7 and 8 to 13 years.
