The word “identity” is something that some take pride in, while for others it is an unbearable burden, a cycle of suffering and hardship that they must carry throughout their lives. Many times, in the name of survival, one continues to move forward by hiding their identity and believing it to be life only to find themselves exhausted and regretful on paths that seem impassable. They don`t let go of their colourful desires even though it is exhausting. They become fireflies in the dark. At that moment, darkness becomes a celebration, light becomes a celebration.

“Bob Marley from Kodihalli” by Jangama Collective is a cluster of stories that revolves around very sensitive discrimination of identity. By using Babasaheb Ambedkar`s “Waiting for Visa” as a metaphor, the question “Where is he truly trying to enter?” becomes important.

20/03/2026

The Mahad Satyagraha was a significant social movement led by B. R. Ambedkar in 1927 in the town of Mahad. It aimed to challenge the practice of untouchability by asserting the right to access public water sources.

Ambedkar and his followers drank water from the Chavdar Tank, a public reservoir, to demonstrate equality and protest caste-based discrimination. This act was a powerful step in the fight for social justice and human rights in India.

The Mahad Satyagraha became a landmark event in the broader movement against caste oppression and helped inspire future struggles for equality.

A well-known line by B. R. Ambedkar reflecting the spirit of the Mahad Satyagraha is:

“We are not going to the Chavdar Tank to merely drink its water. We are going to assert that we too are human beings like others.”

Today is also celebrated as "Social Empowerment Day"

On this Social Empowerment Day, Jangama celebrate the spirit of togetherness, where every voice matters, every hand contributes, and every step forward is shared.

Because true progress isn’t built alone, it grows when communities uplift each other, stand united and move forward with purpose and dignity.

A stronger community creates a stronger nation.
