RIP (1933-2026)

The legendary Asha Bhosle, an icon in Indian music, has left us at 92. Known for her versatility, she was described in the media as one of the greatest and most influential singers in Hindi cinema.

In a career spanning over eight decades, she recorded songs for films and albums in various Indian languages and won several accolades including two National Film Awards, four BFJA Awards, eighteen Maharashtra State Film Awards, nine Filmfare Awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award and a record seven Filmfare Awards for Best Female Playback Singer, in addition to two Grammy nominations.

In 2000, she was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest award in the field of cinema. In 2008, she was honoured by the Government of India with the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian honour of the country.

The Guinness Book of World Records acknowledged her in 2011 as the most recorded artist in music history.

Her voice defined film songs, and her legacy extends globally, inspiring artists like Cornershop and Boy George.

Brigitte Bardot, French actress and animal rights activist
RIP (28 September 1934 - 28 December 2025)

Brigitte Bardot, a star of French cinema in the 1950s and 1960s, has died aged 91.

Her signature roles - in films such as And God Created Woman - cemented her cultural status as a symbol of the sexual liberation movement that swept across Europe in the latter half of the 20th Century.

She stepped back from the silver screen at 39, with almost 50 films under her belt. “I gave my youth and beauty to men, I give my wisdom and experience to animals,” Bardot famously pledged, and spent the remainder of her life campaigning for animal welfare under her Brigitte Bardot Foundation.

Today, French President Emmanuel Macron praised her “French existence” and “universal brilliance”. He added: “She touched us. We mourn a legend of the century.”

“From her rescued pigeons in Saint-Tropez to her beloved dogs, Peta will miss Brigitte, an angel for animals who went to bat and to court to protect them all,” says founder Ingrid Newkirk.

“She once said that only through protecting animals did she truly bloom - and we call on the public to honour her memory by doing something kind for animals today, so that the seeds she planted continue to flourish” the statement adds.

Sreenivasan
RIP (1956-2025)

Sreenivasan left an indelible mark on Malayalam cinema with his distinctive acting style and captivating storytelling.

The celebrated Malayalam actor, scriptwriter, and filmmaker Sreenivasan passed away in Kochi on Saturday (December 20, 2025). He was 69 years old.

He had been battling cardiac and other health issues for some time. Sreenivasan is survived by his wife Vimala, and sons Vineeth and Dhyan, who are also actors.

Born on April 6, 1956, in Pattiam, near Thalassery, Kannur district, Sreenivasan had a remarkable career spanning nearly five decades with over 225 films.

Some of his notable screenplays include Sandesham, Azhakiya Ravanan, Varavelpu, Nadodikattu, and Thalayanamanthram to name a few.

RIP Dharmendra (1935-2025)

Veteran actor Dharmendra passed away on November 24, 2025 at the age of 89,

The 89-year-old actor had been in and out of south Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital for several days.

Dharmendra is known for his memorable performances in films such as ‘Ayee Milan Ki Bela’, ‘Phool Aur Patthar’, ‘Aaye Din Bahar Ke’, ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’, ‘Raja Jani’, ‘Jugnu’, ‘Yaadon Ki Baaraat’, ‘Dost’, ‘Sholay’, ‘Pratiggya’, ‘Charas’, ‘Dharam Veer’, among others.

In 2023, he was seen in ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, directed by Karan Johar.
