Solitude in a tea garden, Kandy, Sri Lanka.

I travelled alone to Kandy in 2015, drawn by this quiet landscape and its shifting light. The slopes held a rhythm of their own, measured in rows, mist, and silence.

A similar landscape exists , in the old colonial tea estates of Munnar in Kerala too where the hills carry the same calm, though in a different voice.

Before colour and nationality defined borders, and in a time when Asia held nearly half of the world’s wealth, Chinese traders came to the Malabar Coast. Sea routes have shifted. Trade systems have risen and fallen. Yet some of these nets still stand in this laid-back colonial town.
