A Tradition Passed Through Generations

Hidden in the villages of Pollachi–Anaimalai is a rare handmade craft called Paaptangulal, created only once every year for Aadi 18 (Aadi Perukku).

For generations, the same family has carefully preserved this tradition, passing the craft from one generation to the next. Every Paaptangulal is handcrafted using bamboo sticks, palmyra leaves, and the seasonal Litsea glutinosa seed—a seed that appears only once a year, making the craft as unique as the festival itself.

More than a handmade toy, Pappattankuzhal is a treasured family legacy, preserving culture and childhood memories, prepared for the Aadi 18 Nombi with patience, skill, and devotion.

This documentary captures the making of the craft, the people behind it, and the legacy of a family dedicated to keeping this centuries-old tradition alive.
