So a few months ago I found out that my sister; ya MY SISTER is an unbelievable writer, and now one of my favorite poets ever. I was so blown away I forgot to even post about it but shes recently come out with her first chapbook and it contains some of my favorite poetry ever written. She’s really a genius, who writes gorgeous, careful, lush, sweet, sour, tender, heart-picking prose. Go to her website to order a copy for yourself or for a friend or for a loved one! Swipe to read my favorite poem from the collection!!! @ Happy Place

Let’s talk about listening. What does it mean to actually listen to feedback, advice or experience that someone is sharing with you? Are we listening in order to respond? Are we listening in order to prove that we are “good” to save our “allied fragility”. To prove we aren’t actually racist, we aren’t actually sexist, we don’t actually have a fear of people who are not like us. How are we listening? Are we correcting small and unimportant inaccuracies within our speakers arguments in order to protect our own sense of self worth and validate our own power? How are you listening? Usually I think of music as a training grounds for being a great human being in the world. As musicians we practice listening to the deepest extents possible. But when it comes to other avenues of life, how do we remember these teachings, and act in alignment with them? We must listen with more purpose. Raise up our bars for what it means to be someone who fights for equality. For someone who listens. For someone who does not try to defend the work they’ve already done, but tries to understand and participate in the work they need to do.

Hello, this is an awesome e-event happening this Friday. It’s organized and curated by an amazing woman who I respect and admire very much. There is an estimated 28,000 people experiencing homelessness in Florida today, and you don’t have to be from Miami to help in a solution for change. check out the link in my bio.
From Organizer

“The People’s Rent Party was built as a fundraising performance aimed to pay honor to the home and to highlight the immediate need for housing protection in vulnerable communities. For generations, the American housing system has disproportionately displaced black, brown, indigenous, and immigrant communities. Many needed help before COVID 19 and now, thousands more are dealing with insecure housing and are left with little to no financial support. All proceeds from the show will go to support housing and other related expenses for members of WeCount, a South Miami-Dade nonprofit made up of farmworkers, nursery workers, day laborers, and domestic workers.”

Suggested Donation is $10!
