The more I paid attention, the more I realised that these objects had never belonged to a single purpose.

The ‘vili’ that sliced vegetables in the morning would be brought out again to scrape coconuts for lunch. The wooden ‘paraat’ that helped shape bhakri dough would later hold rows of freshly rolled ladoos as they cooled before being stored away in steel dabbas. The ‘pedavan’ steamed patoli and modaks during festivals and found its way back into everyday cooking once the celebrations were over.

Nothing was specialised. Nothing was disposable.

Each object adapted itself to the needs of the household, carrying out dozens of small tasks across decades of use.

What stayed with me most was how naturally they belonged to the space around them.

In city kitchens, utensils often compete for space. Pulling out one vessel usually means disturbing three others. Drawers rattle. Shelves overflow. Things are stacked because there is nowhere else to keep them.
But in this kitchen, every object seemed to know exactly where it belonged.

These objects had witnessed far more of this home than I ever could. They had been present for meals, festivals, monsoons, celebrations and countless ordinary days in between. They had outlasted generations.

Perhaps that is the true mark of good design and craftsmanship. Not that an object survives untouched, but that it remains useful across generations. These tools were never created to be temporary. They were built with the expectation that they would be used, worn, repaired and used again.

Some stories are printed. Tangaliya is woven. On the loom, coloured threads are carefully twisted around the warp to create the signature dana—tiny raised motifs that emerge as an intrinsic part of the cloth. Each one is placed by hand, allowing the textile to unfold with measured precision and quiet intent. The resulting surface is tactile yet understated, carrying the gentle irregularities that speak of the human hand. Tailored into a shirt, the fabric retains its integrity, where technique is inseparable from beauty, and craftsmanship is felt as much as it is seen.

This is the very first ad film we've ever made in our 13-year journey.

The story, however, began almost 12 years ago.

While wandering through a small village, we stopped near an otla, where a group of children were playing and singing. Their voices carried something so simple, yet so timeless.

We asked if they would sing it once more.

One little boy, no older than six, stepped forward and sang.

We didn't know it then, but years later, that very voice would become the soul of this film.

Perhaps that's how memories are collected.

You don't preserve them because you know they'll matter. You preserve them because something about the moment quietly tells you it's worth holding on to.

Many of you may find yourself remembering your own childhood while listening to this. Moments that were never meant to become memories, yet somehow stayed with you forever. We all carry fragments like these, quietly preserved for no particular reason, until one day they return and make us smile.

At Gaatha, we've always believed that stories are collected long before they're told.

If this film brings back a forgotten memory, share it with someone you love. Like, share, and let it refresh a beautiful part of your childhood. 🥭✨
