"Mayani Kapmani" a form of Tipra Bara (Tripuri folk song), sung by two eminent Phwrwng-Ama (Gurus) of Tipra Bara, Bgj. Prabharabi DebBarma and Phapari DebBarma.

The excerpt sang portrays a deeply poignant moment in a traditional Tripuri marriage ceremony—the time when the bride is about to leave her maternal home and bid farewell to her mother and family. The profound emotions conveyed through the singing, together with lyrics emerges directly from the heart, carry a deep cultural and emotional significance. It is far more than merely a folk song; it is a heartfelt expression of love, separation, longing, and the emotional bond between a daughter and her family.

“Mayani Kapmani” also serves as a vessel of knowledge, wisdom, and maternal guidance, through which the mother with heartfelt concern and deep emotion advises her daughter on how to conduct herself in her new home—how to manage household responsibilities, uphold family values, follow appropriate customs and ways of living, and lead a respectful, harmonious, and dignified life in her in-laws’ family. Thus, the song carries not only the pain of farewell but also the mother’s hopes, teachings, and blessings for her daughter’s life ahead.

According to an old Tripuri saying, Tipra Bara (Tripuri folk song) is regarded as so powerful and divine that its song and tune were believed to have the power to bring even the dead back to life. Such was the depth of emotion, the purity of feeling, and the heart-touching power believed to live within Tipra Bara. This reflects the extraordinary place Tipra Bara holds in the hearts, lives and tradition of the Tripuri people—a treasured musical heritage filled with divine depth, powerful emotions, and a legacy to be proud of.
