Our collective application to Jerusalem Design Week has passed the first selection round!
Curators Dasha Ilyashenko and Yasha Rozov suggested a concept for a group project that unites installations by several artists from Kakdelart community into one experience.

Looking forward to the conversation with curators of the event to further develop the idea and adapt in to their vision!

“The Saddest Day”, interactive wall by The Walks 💧
What complex feelings does the New Year holiday evoke in you?
The installation explores the experience of celebrating the New Year in a country where this tradition is not customary — the gap between expectations and reality.
“On January 1st, we go to take exams, while outside there are palm trees and sand. It became clear that in Israel, the New Year is, for us, a very sad day” – say the authors of installation, teenages who participate in “The Walks” project.

“The Walks” support young people aged 12–21 who have moved to Israel from Russia and Ukraine. Through walks, creative practice, and community-building in Israel, Spain, and other countries, the project helps them to adapt after emergency migration.

“Snow Queen” - live sculpture and poi performance by Natalia Drozdova ❄️

When winter can only be seen on a screen, the Snow Queen also becomes digital. A pixelated figure shimmering with light, she creates an illusion of cold around her. Her presence is not about frost, but about distance, loss, and the transformation of a fairy tale that, in a new climate and a new reality, survives only as a digital image.

“The Snowstorm”
Performer Valeria Tsybikov
Choreography Ekaterina Hieronymus
Sound Jacob Hieronymus

A dance performance in which the figure of the Snowstorm appears wearing a long fur coat and a white lace woolen headscarf, carrying a loaf of bread wrapped like a newborn. Her movement unfolds within a winter soundscape — from the crunch of snow to a rising blizzard.

Time shifts as the ticking of an old grandfather clock emerges, guiding her dance with the “bread-child.” The performance reaches its climax with “Arabian Coffee” from *The Nutcracker*, ending abruptly in stillness — and the cry of an infant.

The artists invited visitors to return to the joyful anticipation of New Year’s magic rooted in childhood. Through humor, childlike spontaneity, and sparkling tinsel, it recreated the atmosphere of a festive kindergarten matinée (“utrennik” in Russian).

Visitors made their own carnival masks — choosing who they want to be: a glittering snowflake, a hopping bunny, or a little fox. This simple process brings us back to the small gestures through which a sense of wonder is formed. For Israeli visitors, it offered a window into a foreign yet surprisingly familiar festive reality, where ritual becomes an act of collective imagination.

The experience continues in a recreated Soviet living room with a carpet on the wall, where participants act out a festive scene: reciting a poem, wrapping themselves in tinsel, and taking a commemorative photo — a warm keepsake of a brief return to childhood.
