Time to introduce our Artist of the Month!

Regarding collages, in his own words: “ I have always been drawn to the art of collage, which I consider to be essentially the art of transfiguration and transformation. I find it very stimulating to take an image with one meaning and give it another meaning entirely, taking something mundane and commercial and making it transcendant, ecstatic, weird and joyful. What I am currently working on wouldn’t be considered ‘traditional’ collage- it involves taking existing images, magazines and posters, and painting a sort of quasi-collage around the figures involved using mixed media. I am hunting the streets of Tel Aviv for posters advertising everyday items and products, and turning them into commercials for love, for patience, positivity and self growth - these are the “products” we all truly need more of in our lives, immersed in the hustle and bustle of Tel Aviv.”

Time to introduce our Artist of the Month! .collages.de.misstaloune
My name is Chantal and I am a 43 years old French teacher.
I lived in Jerusalem for 10 years after meeting my Israeli boyfriend (now husband) on the French Riviera. We connected through our passion for travel.
We moved to China with our kids and cat about 6 months before Covid hit and went through some crazy times in Southeast Asia where we got stuck for a few months.
I started creating cardboard toys for my kids during lockdown in the Philippines so they’ll have something to play with. It all started there - the creative path I’ve been on for the past couple of years. We moved to London next, where we still live to this day. And this is where I really got into collages. I’ve always loved collecting papers in every texture, form and colors, old books, newspapers. I would collect bits and pieces of paper found on the streets, in magazines, during my travels…but never did anything with it.
I eventually started groping and playing around, tried to find inspiration in fellow artists, exploring until I finally found my own voice.
My aesthetic is very much influenced by women, specially from the 50’s and 60’s, vintage paper, plants, and botanical pictures. I will generally try to incorporate some typography and a nice pop of color! I’m continuing to explore different media and techniques like painting or gelli plate printing.
I absolutely love the collage community and have been trading ATC (artist trading cards) with more than 40 artists from around the world.
I find collaging terribly soothing and relaxing, as I see it as my very much needed “me-time” in the whirlpool of life!

היי, אני שנטל ואני בת 43, מורה לצרפתית.
גרתי בירושלים במשך כעשור לאחר שהכרתי את בעלי (הישראלי) לעתיד בריביירה הצרפתית, התחברנו סביב אהבתינו לטיולים.
עברנו עם משפחתנו לסין כחצי שנה לפני התפרצות הקורונה, מה שהוביל לתקופה די משוגעת בדרום-מזרח אסיה, שם נתקענו לכמה חודשים.
התחלתי להתעסק בצעצועי קרטון על מנת לייצר משחקים ופעילויות לילדים בזמן הסגר, צעד שהחל תהליך יצירתי של חקר עצמי וכך נכנסתי בעצם לעולם הקולאז׳ים.
תמיד אספתי ניירות מסוגים, טקסטורות וצבעים שונים אך אף פעם לא עשיתי איתם דברים, עד שלבסוף התחלתי לשאוב השראה מאומנים אחרים וליצור קולאז׳ים בעזרתם גיבשתי את קולי היצירתי.
האסתטיקה שלי מושפעת רבות מנשים, במיוחד משנות החמישים והשישים, ניירות וינטאג׳ ותמונות של צמחים. לרוב אנסה לשלב גם טיפוגרפיה ונגיעות של צבע שיבלוט.
אני כל הזמן חוקרת מדיות וטכניקות חדשות לשלב ביצירה שלי, כחלק מקהילת הקולאז׳ים אני מחליפה קלפי אומנים עם יותר מארבעים אומנים מסביב לעולם.
אני מוצאת את תהליך היצירה של קולאז׳ים מרגיע מאוד ונחוץ במיוחד ל״זמן העצמי״ שלי במערבולת החיים.

‎קבלו את אמן החודש שלנו! אלקס ווז! Time to introduce our Artist of the Month! Alex Woz!
‎היי, אני אלקס ווז! אני אמן ארגנטינאי יהודי בן 24 ואני כרגע חי בקליפורניה.

‎כשמשפחתי היגרה לאמריקה, אמא שלי נאלצה לוותר על חלומותיה להיות ציירת ומעצבת אופנה. אבל מגיל צעיר היא ידעה שיש לי עניין בתחום האמנות וממש דחפה אותי וטיפחה אותי לעסוק בזה במשך כל שנות ילדותי.

‎התחלתי כצייר, ואחר כך עברתי לעיצוב גרפי, ועכשיו אני עושה שילוב של עיצוב גרפי וקולאז'. אני עובד בעיקר עם כריכות של ספרי מדע בדיוני ישנים, יחד עם תצלומים המציגים קהילות יהודיות בתפוצות שונות בכל רחבי העולם.

‎גדלתי באזור אנטישמי, וכאחד האנשים היהודים היחידים בסביבה, בעצם יצא שהתחברתי לזהות שלי בזכות האנטישמיות.

‎במאי 2021 התחלתי להשתמש בקולאז'ים שלי ולשלב אותם עם טיפוגרפיה כדי לתמוך ולהעצים את הקהילה היהודית סביבי.

‎המשוב שקיבלתי מהקהילה שלי היה מדהים, וידעתי שמצאתי את התיקון שלי כאמן יהודי.

‎המטרה שלי כיום היא ליצור אמנות שתעצים ותעורר השראה עבור יהודים. שנצליח להתחבר לזהות שלנו ממקום בריא, ושניקח שליטה בחזרה על הסיפור שלנו באמצעות ייצוג חיובי.

Hi, I’m Alex Woz! I’m a 24 year old Jewish Argentinean artist living in California.

When my family immigrated to America, my mom had to shelve her dreams of being a painter and fashion designer. From a young age, she knew I had an interest in the arts and really pushed me and nurtured me to practice my craft for years.

I started out as a painter, and then moved into graphic design, and now do a mixture of graphic design and collage. I mostly work with old sci-fi book covers, along with cutouts of photographs displaying different diasporic Jewish communities all over the world.
Growing up in an antisemitic area as one of the only Jewish people, I connected to my identity through antisemitism.

In May 2021, I began utilizing my collage and blending it with typography to deliver words of empowerment to the Jewish community.

The feedback I got from our community was amazing, and I knew I had found my Tikkun as a Jewish artist.

My goal now is to create art that can empower and inspire Jewish people to connect to their identity from a healthy place, and to take back control of their own narrative through positive representation.
