Making a botanical plaster cast.
These flowers were taken from a wedding I recently went to. The arrangements were all so whimsical and beautiful that I wanted to somehow stop time so they couldn’t wilt away. But I don’t have that super power, so instead I made a plaster cast/mould. Alas, as usual when I finished this process, I thought it’s not nearly as beautiful as when the flowers are first pressed into the soft clay and I felt a wee bit sad for them, but it’s really still so beautiful in its simplicity. Hmmm, I think I’ll try making a plate from this one and give it some colour.

🪬Ceramic Hamsa Wall Hanging

🪬Each one that comes out of the kiln is different, but they all have the same feels for me: love, peace, tolerance, acceptance, protection, shared histories, different histories, our story. ✡️🇮🇱

🪬In Judaism, some see the hamsa as the hand of Miriam protecting us, warding off the evil eye. It’s often worn as jewellery, seamlessly woven into our daily lives and nearly always found pinned to our baby prams, an ancient amulet protecting us. 🙌🏼

🪬Nearly every home I walk into in Israel has a hamsa hanging somewhere and the older I get, the more nostalgic I get. I love them all and I don’t know what took me so long so make them, but now it’s all I want to make.

🪬So here’s the latest one adorned with aquamarine and Swarovski crystal danglies. I’ll have more available in the coming weeks once I can make up my mind about which crystals go with which hamsa and for sure I’ll share them with ya’ll.

Playing with the pinks.
I’m not a fan of brush on glazes, I like the dip and go method, but I’ve been playing with this Raspberry Mist 🩷 by and it’s definitely worth the time investment. There’s also a couple of chun plums in here which has a more purply vibe. 💜
What’s your preference?
Brain distraction…has anyone else thought about these lyrics? In the 80s I just went with it, being slightly obsessed with the Psychedelic Furs, but now in my 50s and actually listening to the lyrics they’re just a bit…odd, uncomfortable? So of course I went down a rabbit hole about the song which was a mistake as once again I’m questioning where my 18 year old head was. Regardless, I loved the Hughes movies, so I think it’s going to have to be a nostalgic 80s movie night for me.
Oh and I nearly forgot why I was here…it’s Valentine’s Day soon so if you want a heart mug dm me. I have a few left.

One of my favourite all time glazes is PC20 Rutile Blue by . It’s magic. It’s a beautiful hearty blue that breaks into a rustic brown over my carvings. I love everything about it and it’s never failed me. Alas, it’s no longer available in dipping/powder formula, only brush on and I don’t have the patience for that. Amaco glazes have replaced it with DL20 and as you can see it’s still very beautiful and I’m sure it will grow on me but it’s different. Me thinks it’s more of a deep sea green, not a floating blue. What do y’all think?
