Tech Amergin Arts & Education Centre Tech Amergin Arts & Education Centre offers a regular programme of arts events as well as a wide range of educational programmes for the community.

Amergin (a mythological figure sometimes known as Aimhirghin Glúngheal) was the poet, seer and lawmaker of the Milesians, the Gaelic invaders, whose first successful landfall was at what is now Waterville. As he stepped ashore, Amergin recited his famous poem claiming identity with the surrounding landscape. 'Tech' is the modern 'teach', a house. Waterville Vocational School, which is now reincarn

ated as Tech Amergin Community Arts & Education Centre was commonly known as 'The Tech' or Technical School. Hence the name, a wordplay on the centre's mythological and modern origins. Tech Amergin under the aegis of KES (The VEC in Kerry) organises a wide and comprehensive range of courses for the local community as well as a regular programme of arts events.

Hope our hedgehog boxes help get the numbers up!

The Great Big All Ireland Hedgehog Count Starts next week!!! For the week 8th to 15th June we are asking people to make an extra effort to look for hedgehogs and report your sightings at hedgehogsireland.com. So take a night time stroll in your garden or park or in the countryside and see what you can see. If you see roadkill hedgehogs, please report those too. Be careful out in the dark and Please don't disturb or pick up hedgehogs!

On the final week of their course, learners from the Life Skills class presented the second batch of Hedgehog Houses to community groups. Tidy Towns groups from Portmagee Tidy Towns and Chapeltown Tidy Towns committee Valentia Island Tourist Office along with Ballinskelligs BEAG Green Day and Cian and Lucy Henehan for their forest project.
Having demonstrated how to position the houses, the learners then showed the groups around our garden. Last year these learners created mosaic tiles for the bee garden raised beds. The pollinator friendly plants were visited by a butterfly whilst we were there.
Of course we had to end with another party!
Thankyou to the community groups for their collaboration in this project. Well done to the learners on completing this wonderful resource to support biodiversity in South Kerry.
None of this would happen without our amazing teachers and tutors. Susanne McCarthy Lucy and Mary….we love it when a plan comes together😁
