Hello dear Bridge friends, I am so sorry but I will have to take at least another 6 months before I can come back to bridge. My new job is going really well but keeps me very busy. To all my bridge friends :)
I am sorry to let you know that I will have a break from now on until September. This is due to a very busy schedule in my new job for the moment. I really hope that all will be quieter after the summer and that I will be back to bridge as usual.
Keep playing and improving, and play few hands for me

A DOUBLE OF THE OPPONENT'S CONVENTIONAL BID SHOWS THAT SUIT !
Whenever the opposition use a bid with an artificial meaning, you have the opportunity to show that suit by doubling. Ex:
1NT P 2C Dbl : the Dbl of Stayman shows a good 5 card club suit. the message is like an overcall, asking partner to support you, or to lead your suit if the opponents play.
The same Dbl could be used over on a 2C opening bid and 2D response; a Transfer bid, or any low-level artificial bid. Make sure that you talk and agree with your partner about the meaning of your Dbl

PRE-EMPT MORE AGGRESSIVELY THIRD IN HAND!
If your partner and right-hand opponent have already passed, and you hold a sub-minimum opening hand, the chances are that your left hand opponent holds a sizeable opening hand. To prevent him from describing that hand accurately would provide you with a big advantage. For example, if I hold QJ109876 in ♥ but only 3pts, the advise is to open 3♥
Remember, only third in hand !

MAKE VERY AGGRESSIVE OVERCALLS IF YOUR SUIT IS â™ 
An overcall is the start of a barrage. if partner can support you, he does. This barrage is at its most effective when the overcalled suit is spades. The highest ranking suit forcing the opponents to a higher level. For this reason, you should be keen to make a light overcall if your suit is â™

3 Kilkenny students have qualified to represent Ireland in Slovakia , at the European BridgeYouth Team games in July .James Higgins and Mark Reade CBS will play as part of an under 21 team in the competition, Aideen Edmondson Colaiste Pobail Osrai will compete as part of an under 15 girls team We wish all three the very best of luck, The young players from Kilkenny have done very well in all current teams and pairs competitions ,and have travelled far and wide to Irish venues during the year to participate in these events ,they also practice on BBO with their mentors on Sunday nights,

ADD POINTS FOR SHORTAGES ONLY ONCE YOU HAVE FOUND A FIT
this tip may be too basic for many readers, but still too many players add distribution points at the wrong time, so perhaps it is well to check for any bad habits :)
When opening or overcalling, you may add extra pts for a long suit(s). No pts should be counted for shortages as yet, because if partner holds length in that suit, your shortage is bad news. If you support partner's suit, or your suit is supported by partner, THEN shortages are definitely working, because you have sufficient trumps to use for ruffing. And remember when playing, ruffing in the long hand doesn't bring you extra tricks. So try to ruff in the short hand for extra tricks :)
