Coming Soon @ Sonic Dreams Sonic Arts Waterford

Evolution is an interactive Sonic Art Installation which combines "Found Percussion" - one of the oldest music technologies - with Digital Signal Processing - one of the most recent methods for making music.

The audience interacts with a Musical Instrument developed and curated by Alison "Little" Forbes. It can be played by throwing missiles (which we supply) at it, creating random hit-and-miss noises. The available sounds can also be explored in a more deliberate manner by tapping with a variety of textured beaters. Concealed microphones capture the noises.

Behind the scenes, a signal processing network creates an evolving soundscape of ever increasing density.

The output is a long composition in two layers: a journal of the sonic happenings throughout the day, and a dynamic electronic ambience created from those happenings.

Evolution was premiered at
ISSTA International Festival and Conference on Sound in the Arts, Science and Technology (ISSTA 2017)
Sept 7th-8th 2017
at the Dundalk Institute of Technology, Co Louth, Ireland

The next installation is scheduled for Sonic Dreams 2017 in Waterford, Sept 29th and 30th, at the 20ten Gallery.
