Little Red Kettle Theatre

Little Red Kettle Theatre Making theatre with and for children and young people. Where Imagination Begins.

Little Red Kettle Theatre is a young person centred performance arts organisation that strives to be a consistent, positive force for creative, personal, and social development. Our programmes are highly interactive and aim to ignite the imagination of our participants through a theatrical experience that is exciting, liberating and accessible. We promote self discovery, cultural diversity, a sens

e of community and a belief in mutual respect. We wish to give young people a meaningful, empowering experience in a safe, positive, and creative environment as well as encourage self-awareness and self-confidence through the medium of interactive, ensemble-based performance arts. We feel this provides young people with opportunities to develop communication, concentration, and teamwork skills through participation in theatrical and artistic projects. It has always been our practise to offer opportunities to young people from a variety of backgrounds to work together towards a common purpose, challenging racial, social, or socio-economic pre-conceptions and gender-based exclusions. We believe participation in theatre innately promotes increased awareness and acceptance of cultural and individual diversity, as well as increased communication and understanding between young people from differing backgrounds and experiences. At Little Red Kettle, we put the developmental needs of our participants first and provide programmes that are youth-powered, youth-focussed and delivered in a safe environment by experienced professionals.

LRK at All Together Now

We had a brilliant time bringing Little Red Kettle to All Together Now last week as part of the Kids Together area.

Across the day, children and families joined us for performances of A Tremendously Terrible Tantrum and creative mask-making workshops, filling the festival with imagination, colour and play.

It was a lovely opportunity to share LRK’s work outside our usual spaces and connect with young audiences in a fun festival setting.

A big thank you to everyone who came along, joined in and helped make the day so special.

πŸŽͺ A day at Spraoi!

A small group from our Culture Club spent Saturday exploring this year's Spraoi, Waterford, taking in a variety of incredible street performances and outdoor theatre.

Throughout the day, the group watched Inertie , Tutti in Valigia, BAMBOO, and part of She's Got Brass, taking notes and sketching as they went. Back in the studio, they'll come together to reflect on the performances, share their thoughts, and discuss what inspired them most.

Experiencing live performance is an important part of Culture Club, encouraging young people to think critically, explore different art forms, and discover new ways of telling stories.

β˜€οΈ Looking back at July β˜€οΈ

What a month it was!

July was filled with creativity, connection and plenty of summer adventures. From welcoming children to our Summer in Colour camps, to seeing our Culture Club explore new places and creative experiences, it was wonderful to watch so many young people learn, create and grow together.

We also rounded off the month by bringing A Tremendously Terrible Tantrum and our Creative Creatures Workshops to families at All Together Now. Thank you to everyone who came along to play, create and share the day with us!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us throughout July. Whether you took part in a camp, visited us at the festival or supported us online, you helped make it a month to remember. πŸ’›

As we head into August, things will be a little quieter at LRK while our regular programmes take a summer break. We'll be spending the month planning, preparing and looking forward to welcoming everyone back for another exciting term in September.

πŸ“Έ What a fantastic week at our Culture Club Summer Camp!

Throughout the week, our young artists explored photography, poetry and self-portraiture through a series of creative workshops, gallery visits and hands-on activities.

We began by creating blackout poetry before turning our attention to photography, exploring the colours, textures and hidden details of Waterford through our own camera lenses. Inspired by Sharon Murphy's Mise en Abyme exhibition at GOMA, we transformed our photographs into expressive paintings.

The creativity continued with a visit to our friends at the Waterford Gallery of Art, where the group explored self-portraiture before returning to Garter Lane to create their own artworks using fish-eye lens selfies as inspiration.

Each day ended with time to journal, giving everyone the chance to reflect on their experiences, record ideas and celebrate their creative journey throughout the week.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for such an inspiring week. We loved seeing your creativity, curiosity and confidence grow with every activity. πŸ’›
