Little Red Kettle Theatre

Little Red Kettle Theatre Making theatre with and for children and young people. Where Imagination Begins.

Little Red Kettle Theatre is a young person centred performance arts organisation that strives to be a consistent, positive force for creative, personal, and social development. Our programmes are highly interactive and aim to ignite the imagination of our participants through a theatrical experience that is exciting, liberating and accessible. We promote self discovery, cultural diversity, a sens

e of community and a belief in mutual respect. We wish to give young people a meaningful, empowering experience in a safe, positive, and creative environment as well as encourage self-awareness and self-confidence through the medium of interactive, ensemble-based performance arts. We feel this provides young people with opportunities to develop communication, concentration, and teamwork skills through participation in theatrical and artistic projects. It has always been our practise to offer opportunities to young people from a variety of backgrounds to work together towards a common purpose, challenging racial, social, or socio-economic pre-conceptions and gender-based exclusions. We believe participation in theatre innately promotes increased awareness and acceptance of cultural and individual diversity, as well as increased communication and understanding between young people from differing backgrounds and experiences. At Little Red Kettle, we put the developmental needs of our participants first and provide programmes that are youth-powered, youth-focussed and delivered in a safe environment by experienced professionals.

Last week, our Smallies stepped into the wonderful world of Where The Wild Things Are.

We created our own drumming circle and led a wild rumpus before transforming ourselves into Wild Things and recreating scenes from the story through drama and play.

To finish, everyone made their own crown so they could be king or queen for a day.

A magical afternoon full of imagination, movement and storytelling

Our older group brought the term to a close by revisiting the three texts they explored throughout the past few months.

Through discussion, costume work and performance, the group stepped back into each theatrical world, reflecting on the characters, themes and ideas they encountered along the way.

A fitting end to a term full of creativity, curiosity and thoughtful conversations

A lovely final week of term for our 10–12s!

The group wrapped up their exploration of A Midsummer Night's Dream with improvisation activities and costume design, bringing together everything they had discovered about Shakespeare's magical world over the past few weeks.

It's been wonderful to see their creativity, confidence and imagination grow throughout the term

Recently, our Smallies have been exploring festivals from around the world through drama, storytelling and creative play.

Inspired by different celebrations and traditions, the group created their own festival identities, complete with masks, magical rituals and traditions to be passed down through generations. There was even a quest to uncover some very special festival bubble wands, which made for a fittingly joyful end to the afternoon!

A wonderful session full of imagination, collaboration and creativity.

Our older group continued their exploration of Little Shop of Horrors this week.

Through script work, discussion and performance, the group delved further into the characters, themes and unique style of this cult musical. It's been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they experiment with a different approach to storytelling through musical theatre.

This week, our 10–12s returned to the magical world of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Using drama, costumes and their own creative adaptations, the group continued exploring Shakespeare's famous comedy, bringing the characters and story to life through imagination and performance.

It's been fantastic to see their creativity and collaboration shine as they make the play their own.

This week, our Smallies explored the theme of festivals from around the world!

We discovered different traditions and celebrations before creating our own dramatic responses through theatre and play. Along the way, the group embarked on a perilous quest to find some magical festival bubble wands, which were finally put to good use in the garden at the end of class.

To finish, we designed festival masks and invented our own unique festival traditions to be passed down through the ages. A wonderfully imaginative afternoon full of creativity, storytelling and fun.

Last Saturday, our Culture Club members proudly shared their work with family, friends and the wider community as part of their Moving Mountains exhibition for Cruinniú na nÓg.

The exhibition marked the completion of another fantastic term of Culture Club. Over the past eight weeks, the group explored creativity through art, storytelling, gallery visits, theatre trips and hands-on projects, resulting in a wonderful exhibition showcasing their ideas, imagination and hard work.

It was a joy to see visitors engaging with the artwork, reading the artists' reflections, and celebrating everything the group achieved together.

A huge well done to all of our Culture Club members and facilitators for a brilliant term. We can't wait to see what the next chapter brings

☀️ Why do children love Little Red Kettle Summer Camps? ☀️

It’s more than just a week of activities.

Our camps give children the opportunity to make new friends, explore their creativity and grow in confidence in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Through drama, dance, arts & crafts and imaginative play, children are encouraged to express themselves, try new things and have fun along the way

Summer in Colour is nearly here and we're down to our final places.
