REVENGE at Hotel Rapscallion
Why should you come? We asked the woman who wrote it. ✍️
"I think people should come see the show because of the way that Liam and the lads have taken this script and absolutely just sprinted into the horizon with it."
"It is a full commitment to bits, to silliness, to accents, to moustaches. It's a wild ride."
"Please come see it. The lads are frankly incredible in it, and I cannot wait to see the final product of everything they've done."
That's the writer of the play telling you to go. We'd take her word for it. 🎩
REVENGE AT HOTEL RAPSCALLION — a world premiere by Mary O'Donoghue, directed by Liam Meagher, performed by the young company of our Summer Project, aged 15 to 19.

REVENGE at Hotel Rapscallion
"A lot of trees have died for this play." 📄
Writer Mary O'Donoghue on what happens to a script once director Liam Meagher gets hold of it:
"There is loose paper all over our rehearsal room… Him taking what I've written and doubling it, tripling it, quadrupling it, just more silly and more chaotic. Always more jokes you could wring out of a script."
"I wrote scenes and I was like, oh, that's stupid... in a good way."
"It's very strange to see something that I've written be transformed and worked upon by a director like Liam Meagher. It's incredible."
Half of Revenge at Hotel Rapscallion is a haunted-hotel murder mystery. The other half is the rehearsal room falling apart around it. Both halves were assembled out of that loose paper.

Meet Karly. 👋
“Guys, come and see the show! Come on! It'll be great."

Karly is playing two parts in this one, which tells you something about how Revenge at Hotel Rapscallion is built. "It's hard, since I have two parts to learn."
On the rest of it: "It's been stressful and also enjoyable at the same time… It's a great craic. It's a murder mystery, I feel like everybody loves murder mysteries. The cast is great as well."
And her verdict: "It's going to be amazing and spooky but yet funny at the same time, and you guys should buy tickets!" 👻

Mary O'Donoghue joined the Waterford Youth Arts writing group at 13. 🖊️
On the 10th of September, a group of 15-to-19-year-olds will premiere her play at Garter Lane.
"It is very full circle, but it was also terrifying."
"I was a member of Waterford Youth Arts, in the writing group, since I was about 13, and then I joined the drama group when I was about 15 or 16. So it's coming on eight, nine years."
"I'm incredibly grateful for being able to provide a space for the lads now that I wanted and needed as a teenager. So, I feel like I'm giving back to a company that I took so much from as a teenager."
That's the whole idea, really. The teenager in the writing group becomes the writer whose premiere the next lot get to be in.

Most young writers write in private, and quietly assume nobody else their age is doing it.
Creative Writing starts back at Waterford Central Library on Saturday 19th of September. Three groups covering 7 to 19 – fiction, poetry, prose, script. Mostly it's about working out what you want to imagine, and how to get it onto a page.
No experience needed and nothing to prepare.
If the fee is what's stopping you, please ask us.
We have a bursary to help families with workshop costs. Email [email protected] or ring 051 879377 it's kept completely private.
And reminder: all workshops must be booked in advance. We can't take walk-ins.

Saturdays at The Arch, from the 19th of September.
Visual Art is back for the autumn term drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, illustration and craft.
It runs from age five all the way up to seventeen, which makes it the easiest one to bring a whole family to: the small ones in the morning, the older ones after lunch. There's a Friday evening class for the 8 to 10s as well.
Nobody has to arrive able to draw. They're not asked to be good at art, they're asked to make something and join the fun.
If the fee is what's stopping you, please ask us.
