Across two sessions with autistic young adults, Emma facilitated the Vibrant Vortex workshop at Brill Family Centre, Waterford. Participants explored how energy and emotion can be expressed through colour and texture.

Using materials like shredded tissue paper, clean cat litter and netting, participants created textured spiral artworks on canvas. While tissue paper was sometimes challenging, alternative techniques supported the process.

In the second session they reflected on how they were feeling and engaged with energy spiral descriptions, identifying what resonated with them. They also explored how colours relate to mood, with some sharing insights such as linking gold with spirituality and painting their spirals.

A calm and creative Mindful Morning started the week in Britannia Bay on Monday. This half day retreat is a collaboration between Anél Engelke, The Somatologist and Suzan from Conscious Crafting.

The morning brought together a mix of familiar and new faces, West Coast ladies drawn to the blend of mindfulness, movement and creativity.
The program included a sensory beach walk, where participants explored engaging with nature in a more intentional way, observing through all senses rather than processing thoughts.

This was followed by a guided meditation by Anél, connecting to a chosen shell, and a creative session facilitated by Suzan.

There was a shared sense of surprise at how quickly the time passed, with a light and enjoyable reaction from the group when the colours were introduced after the nourishing snacks and herbal teas.

We closed with a gentle yoga flow inspired by the movement of seaweed held by Anél. In reflection, participants valued the overall experience and the new connections formed, with appreciation for both the mindful elements and the creative process.

Last Saturday in Carlow we hosted a double 8th birthday party creating unicorn dreamcatchers, facilitated by Emma. The group of girls were engaged, energetic, and focused during the activity, choosing colours and working on their pieces throughout.

Some named their unicorns, adding a personal touch to their work. There were also moments where the girls supported each other, creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere.

With some guidance when needed, especially with the wool, the girls were able to complete their dreamcatchers and were happy with what they made. They all received “unicorn poop” (slime) as a party gift.

The Shamrock Slate workshop was held in collaboration with Maolìosa’s regular Irish class, welcoming participants new to Irish language and culture.
It took place yesterday in St Patrick’s Gateway Centre in Waterford, facilitated by Emma reading out the meditation in Irish.

Participants painted shamrock designs onto authentic slate roof tiles, creating reusable chalkboards inspired by St Patrick’s Day and Irish symbolism.

The large, enthusiastic group explored Irish words such as dochas (hope) and sìochàin (peace) and asked about words from meditation. Working with paint, chalk on slate tiles was described as culturally engaging and interesting.
