After spending a lot of time analyzing the current and future situation with Covid-19 for pubs going forward, it is with great sadness that I have decided to close our doors permanently. This was certainly one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make. Every business, at the moment, is in its own unique situation and has to make difficult calls accordingly. Please support local business.
We opened our doors on the 12th December 2008 and were in our 12th year of trading when the Corona Virus hit in early March. Nobody saw this coming. Since then we felt we had an obligation to staff and customers to do everything we could to reopen, but this just wasn’t feasible with the current and future restrictions on the pub trade.
I’d like to thank all of our staff over the years for their hard work and dedication and especially Michael, Kelly, Dean and Conor who pulled the last few pints on our final weekend so many months ago. I can’t praise them enough.
To all our customers old & young, it’s been eventfull!! A lot of great memories. So many characters and so many friendships that will last a lifetime. Thanks to all of you, your custom was always greatly appreciated.
Live music was an integral part of Canavan’s from day one and I’d like to thank all the bands that entertained the masses over the years. There are too many to mention. It’s essential that Tuam continues to support all of its great musicians and bands as it’s definitely part of our make up. These guys are some of the hardest hit with the pub closures. Who knows when we can once again swing from the rafters to our favorite tunes.
Also thanks to all the local clubs and societies who have given us great support throughout the years. A special thanks to Tuam Stars, Tuam Rugby Club and the Marian Choral Society, with whom we had many sponsorship deals over the years and they kept us going through the quieter times. Also thanks to Tuam Hurling Club, Tuam Celtic, Dynamo Blues, Tuam Swimming Club and others I may not have mentioned who always popped in for many meetings and a few pints. As a town, our continued support for these organizations is a great investment in Tuam.
Please feel free to post a picture of your favorite memory in Canavan’s and in the famous words of The Docs......
‘I hope we’ll meet again’
Stay safe.
