One of the most iconic singles of the 2 Tone era, the wonderful “Baggy Trousers” by North London’s finest export Madness celebrates its 46th birthday today! “Baggy Trousers” was released on 5th September 1980 by Stiff Records. It featured an insanely catchy 2 Tone ska rhythm & wonderfully nostalgic singalong vocals that looked back fondly at the band’s youthful school days. It immediately became an anthem for a whole generation of teenage ska fans & sold in massive numbers. “Baggy Trousers” spent 20 weeks on the UK Official Singles Chart peaking at number 3. It was the 5th consecutive Top 20 hit for Madness.
