Tipperary Singers

(Peter Lynch posting). As you may be aware, I’m working on an online history of the Tipperary Singers. The choir lasted close to 50 years, and through their songs, performances, concerts, and fundraising efforts, became part of the musical heritage of Tipperary. To honour the choir and its many members over the years, I’m creating a website dedicated to the members, memories and music of the Tipperary Singers. Hopefully, this will be launched late next year or the following year. I can hear my mam (Betty) reminding me each year to get it finished. To help with the history, I am compiling a list of all the choir members since its inception in 1972. As you can imagine, it is a long list! Below are 3 pictures of the choir from 1974, 1989 and one in the 90s, I think. I have most of the names in the picture, but I am missing some. So if you spot yourself, or a relation or friend in one of the pictures, can you please let me know on Facebook, or you can email at [email protected]. Also, if you have any old pictures of the choir, I would really appreciate getting a copy.

A few years ago, Betty started collecting her notes and materials on her beloved choir, the Tipperary Singers. Based on her files, I am happy to say today that I am working on a book on the history of the one and only Tipperary Singers. It will be a tribute to the choir members and supporters, over 45 years – their songs, competitions, concerts, journeys, fundraising and much more. I expect the book to take a year to finish and it should be of interest to the choir members, their friends and family and anyone interested in the musical history of the town. As with my Dad’s book, I will only be doing one print run so even at this early stage, if you are interested in the book, let me know and I will put you down for a copy. Over the next few months, I will be reaching out to the choir members, all the way back to the beginning! For the book launch, we will have a creative ‘event’ of some sort next year, to celebrate the Tipperary Singers and their founder/conductor, Betty.
