Lajee Tour to Ireland Statement on the Cancellation of the 2026 Irish Tour

The Lajee Tour to Ireland group expresses its profound disappointment and frustration following the Irish Government’s decision to deny visas to our Dabke dancers, musicians and leaders for the second time, effectively forcing the cancellation of our planned cultural exchange tour.

We have worked closely with Lajee for over two years to organise this cultural celebration, bringing the rich tradition of Palestinian dance and music to communities across Ireland. It would have also given the young people from Aida Refugee Camp some much needed respite from the Israeli occupation.

Despite having had two previous successful tours, meeting all procedural requirements, submitting extensive documentation, and securing local community partnerships, the group were refused the necessary travel visas. This is also despite Lajee having sent youth delegations to Italy and Spain this summer without issue.

The Irish government inexplicably denied the visas by claiming that documents, which had actually been delivered by hand to the Embassy in Tel Aviv, were missing from the applications.
The Lajee Center and families of those intending to travel have lost thousands of euros in application fees, translation and notary fees for documents which had to be submitted as part of the process.

We are calling on the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Helen McEntee, to explain why young Palestinian performers are paying the price for an apparent administrative breakdown between her department and the Department of Justice.

🚨Dept of Justice denies Palestinian children the opportunity of Irish tour in July🚨

We are hugely disappointed to have to cancel the Lajee Tour to Ireland scheduled for 20th July to 5th August as no visas have been issued by the Dept of Justice.

The 18 young dancers, singers and leaders from the Lajee Center in the West Bank were due to tour Ireland but have been let down again by the Irish government as visa applications were refused in 2025.

We have not given up and intend to continue to pressure the government to do the right thing and allow the young people come to Ireland later in the summer.

Please continue to advocate for these Palestinian children with your public reps.

Applications for visas for the Lajee Cultural Tour Ireland 2026 (20th July - 2nd August) were lodged on the 2nd June 2026 with the Irish Embassy in Tel Aviv and forwarded to the Dept of Justice for processing. The application is for 18 people - including young people & staff from Lajee Cultural Centre, Aida Refugee Camp in Bethlehem.

There is still no decision on the visas which makes it increasingly difficult to plan and organise the Tour. Flights cannot be booked, the cost of which is escalating daily and we cant book accommodation, venues etc. until the visas are issued.

Visas for the group were refused in 2025 after a 9 month wait for a decision by the Dept of Justice.

We are asking for people to contact the Dept of Justice today and request the visas be issued immediately so as Lajee Cultural Tour Ireland 2026, can go ahead.

📣Lajee to Ireland Tour 2026 is Officially On!

Dear Friends and Supporters,

We are thrilled to share a major update regarding our incredible group of young Dabke dancers, musicians, and leaders from the
As many of you know, we faced a heartbreaking setback when the Irish government denied visas for our planned 2025 tour. While we were deeply disappointed, we never lost hope.

Today, we are filled with determination because the Lajee to Ireland Tour is officially scheduled for 20th July to 5th August 2026! The visas have been applied for and we are hopeful of a successful outcome.

What to Expect in Summer 2026
This summer, 20 talented Palestinian youth and their mentors will finally travel to Ireland. They are ready to bring their powerful performances, vibrant culture, and vital stories to cities across the country.

During the tour, the group will:
• Perform live public shows showcasing traditional Dabke music and dance.
• Live with local families to build deep, lifelong community bonds.
• Connect with Irish peers through visits to local secondary schools.
• Engage with policymakers to advocate for Palestinian human rights.

Your Impact; Next Steps
We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who donated during our 2025 campaign. Your funds are safely held in our AIB bank account and will be used directly for this trip. However, to pull off a tour of this scale—covering flights, internal travel, venue costs, and meals—we still need to hit our goal.

How you can help today:
• Share this update on your social media channels. • Talk to friends and family about the upcoming tour.
• Keep an eye on our socials for volunteer opportunities.

🇵🇸Thank you for standing in solidarity with these inspiring young artists. Let's get them to Ireland! With gratitude, Orla O Neill, Fidelma Bonass and the Lajee Tour Team🇵🇸
