Meet the Creative Team for our Culture Night Play in a Day! Performance!

🎭 Dean McMorrow loves writing and performing arts in all forms. He is an aspiring short story writer, screenwriter, novelist, and playwright from Pollboy, Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim. He has acted on stage in local Leitrim and Sligo, and community theatre productions since childhood.

🎭 Ellie has been involved in the arts her whole life as an actress, musician, and artist. She is currently the singer and bassist of the band Dissolver and has most recently acted in the play Glamour Hamilton with Rabbits Riot and for Splódar in Damhsa ag Lughnasa

🎭 Órla McSharry is North-West of Ireland based Actor, voiceover artist, street performer and Drama facilitator.
She is currently touring nationally with ‘Medium Rare’ a Hawkswell production. Some of her other most recent stage credits include playing multiple roles for the Blue Raincoat Theatre Company’s Production of ‘Ubu Roi (The Factory, March 2026), Katie in ‘Effigy’ (Hawks Well, Jan 2026) and, Holly in ‘Glitch-mas’ (Hawks Well, Dec 2025).

🖊️ Treasa Nealon is a playwright and theatre-maker based in Leitrim. She co-founded The Rabbit’s Riot Theatre Company in 2016.
Her most recent playwriting work includes ‘The World is Falling in Around Us’ performed at Union Theatre, London (May 2026), a rehearsed reading of ‘Boom Boom Bang’ as part of the Druid Debuts (December 2025) and ‘Homesick’ at the Dublin Fringe Festival (September 2025).
Her short play ‘Back of the Bus’ was selected as part of Fishamble’s The Navigator Project and published with Bloomsbury (June 2026).

💡 Caroline Norris has been a lighting designer for over a decade, working both free-lance for other directors and companies, as well as the main Lighting Designer and Production Manager for the Rabbit’s Riot Theatre Company. Caroline has worked all over Ireland; free-lance plays include ‘A Rose By Any Other Name’, ‘An Chos Eile’, and ‘Hear Me Speak’. Recent Plays Caroline has technically designed include ‘Glamour-Hamilton’, ‘Homesick’, and ‘Effigy produced by The Rabbits Riot Theatre Company.

Do you have an idea for a short play? Have you an interest in playwriting? Do you want to see your work read on stage?

Then take part in Play in a Day! - an exciting Culture Night workshop where you’ll have the opportunity to write a new theatrical masterpiece and see it performed on The Glens Arts Centre stage the very next day! Guided by playwright Treasa Nealon (‘The Back of the Bus’, Fishamble and ‘Homesick’, Dublin Fringe Festival) during an welcoming and creative workshop the evening before Culture Night, you will have until 12pm the next day to submit your plays!

Spaces are limited. Please register your interest with your play idea and a sample of your writing to [email protected] by 5pm Friday 4th September.

Six new plays. Twenty-four hours. One unforgettable Culture Night.

Can you write a play in 24 hours? For Culture Night, The Glens Arts Centre presents Play in a Day!, where six emerging writers create original short plays in just 24 hours.

A collaboration between The Glens Arts Centre and The Rabbit's Riot Theatre Company, this is a celebration of creativity, imagination and the thrill of brand-new theatre.

Guided by acclaimed Leitrim playwright Treasa Nealon, participants begin with a scriptwriting workshop before completing their plays overnight. The following day, professional actors will rehearse each script before presenting them to a live audience in a series of rehearsed readings.

Treasa Nealon's work has been recognised nationally and internationally. Her short play The Back of the Bus was selected for Fishamble's The Navigator Project and was published by Bloomsbury. Her full-length Boom Boom Bang was selected for Druid Debuts, with recent productions including The World is Falling in Around Us (London's Union Theatre) and Homesick (Dublin Fringe Festival).

Whether you're a theatre lover, aspiring writer or simply curious, come experience six brand-new stories created in just one day.

Armed with a bin bag full of childhood mementos, Katie returns to her hometown in Leitrim after the man who groomed her as a teenager passes away.

Confronted with her past, the present and a fiery future, she searches for a way to reckon with the hurt that has shaped her adult life.
