Know Promises Theatre Collective is delighted to introduce Freya McBride and Rachel Donlon, two of the recipients of the 2026 Bag of Cats Award.

Freya McBride

Freya McBride is 22 and originally from Kildare. She is currently in her final year of Performing Arts at ATU Sligo. From a young age she has always had a love for performing, whether acting or dance, and is excited to continue growing her skills and knowledge while sharing her love of the stage with a wider audience. She has a passion for theatre performance and creation and enjoys working in collaboration with other artists. The freedom of expression within the arts, where nothing ever has to fit into a particular box, is what keeps her driven and excited to be within the creative field. Her most recent creative venture is co-founding a production company called An Comhar Productions with her colleague Rachel Donlon.

Rachel Donlon

Rachel Donlon is a performer from Kildare and a soon-to-be graduate of the Performing Arts programme at ATU Sligo. Her foundational experience began with Kildare Youth Theatre, where devising was a primary element, before moving to Sligo full-time to pursue her degree.

Outside of her studies, she has participated in theatre productions such as Pop-Up Theatre’s 2025 production of Sweeney Todd. She has appeared in numerous independent and RTÉ funded short films, some of which were screened at this year’s Dublin International Film Festival. In addition to her performance work, she has gained industry experience as a background artist on major TV series and feature films.

Driven by a passion for Celtic Mythology and innovative Irish storytelling, she recently co-founded a production company alongside her colleague, Freya McBride, where they are currently working on their first Irish language short film.

We’re delighted to have Freya and Rachel as part of the Bag of Cats Award residency and look forward to supporting their work over the coming year.

Around this time two years ago, KPTC began the Research & Development phase of bringing "The Rambler" to life. Supported by the Theatre Project Award (Strand 2) from Arts Council Ireland, we gathered an extraordinary group of artists to explore, experiment, and build the foundations of the work.

Our musicians brought a rich and distinctive soundscape to the process:

Joanna Sweeney – Bodhrán & flutes
Jaan Eerik Priks – Harp (on wheels) & fiddle
Rodney Lancaster – Concertina
Leonard Barry – Uilleann pipes

Performers & Movement Artists:

Doris Vahtra – Performer
Kyle Conlon – Performer
Brian Francis Devaney – Performer/Director
Caoimhe Feehily – Performer
Hannah Rodgerson – Dancer
Diarmuid Maycock-Armstrong – Dancer

The work was further shaped by:

Dylan McGloin – Designer
Siobhan Butler – Irish Dance Mentor
Emily Aoibheann – Aerial Silk, Dramaturgy & Co-Director

And, of course, none of it would have been possible without our dedicated crew and technical team.

This phase unfolded and truly found its creative home at The Nest Sligo in Sligo, Ireland, where "The Rambler" began to breathe, grow, and take shape.

Know Promises Theatre Co. is an International ensemble aiming to devise, write & create new works. Currently rooted in Ireland with an international element with core members from Estonia, France & Ireland.

As a collective, we are establishing ourselves in various creative spaces, theatres & locations worldwide, in collaboration with a range of companies, venues & festivals.

'Know Promises Theatre Collective', our name is our vow to keep our audience on their toes too, things are not always so black & white, we play & explore the grey. Our new work moves into our perception of Time, Memory, Love, Science, the Senses & Collective Consciousness., but hey…No Promises!

Our work starts with honesty - sometimes brutal, sometimes delicate - and from there we build theatre that refuses to compromise on authenticity. We want audiences to feel the closeness of theatre, the unavoidable presence of live performance that demands attention.

It is here to push and pull you within the pleasure of a shared experience. The power to channel stories has given to all of us. We are a collective of bodies & voices, a collective of original ideas.

Remembering 'Crow Coma'.

Our first concept of new theatre work to explore.
We took to the room for Research & Development workshops with 7 people that had never created before & after 11 days, presented the findings to private audiences.

To be in a coma...the space between here & there...impact & awakening.

A car crash fractures time.
A body between.
As consciousness drifts, a Crow appears.

The original messenger!
“You are in a coma,” it says.
“there are some rules of the...of your...well, of our game.”
"and you have to decide whether to wake up or not..."

Why not just wake up?
One might ask!
The Crow tilts its head.
What waits on the other side may not resemble what was left behind.

We played with how we perceive time & memory... while a body is breathing, motionless, somewhere else.

Crow Coma is an exploration of mortality & choice —
The game of life...to play with consciousness.

We can't wait to play again & welcome the Crow into our playground of the stage!
