Following the success of her debut album ‘Bluebells are Blooming’ in 2016, County Clare flute player Bríd O’Gorman has recently released her second album entitled ‘The Idle Road’. This album is a representation of Bríd’s steady, rhythmic style of flute playing and showcases the rich musical heritage of County Clare. It is a combination of old and new tunes and includes one of Bríd’s own compositions called ‘In Ómós do Liam’.

Bríd grew up in Liscannor, County Clare, and began playing the tin whistle at the age of 5. She progressed onto the flute when she was 7. Her music has brought her to many great places, and she has become a prominent performer and teacher.

Joining Bríd on some tracks on the album are her sons Diarmuid on banjo and Gearóid on fiddle, along with her daughter Síomha on concertina and harp. Michael Landers on guitar, and Eoin O’Neill on bouzouki, provide rich, soulful accompaniment on the album, and greatly enhance the tunes. Bríd’s sister Caitríona and Caitríona’s children join her on the final track of the album, finishing the album with a rousing set of reels.

‘The Idle Road’ encapsulates the style of music of Bríd and her family and friends. Martin O’Malley, of Malbay Studios in Miltown, Co.Clare, has captured Bríd’s clarity of sound on the flute, and her incredible tone and the album promises to be a captivating listening experience for all. The Howard/Hughes Project

Sixmilebridge Folk Club are delighted to host the Howard/Hughes Project on Tuesday April 8th, at 8pm in Gleeson's bar Sixmilebridge.

Wally Hughes and Lisa Kay Howard have been performing bluegrass music together for over 15 years and are based out of northern Virginia.

They also happen to be married to each other. Both have been travelling musicians from a very young age. After they finally met, they played and recorded together in the Lisa Kay Band, and then joined East Of Monroe, Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike, and Level Best — two of those bands have also toured Ireland.

They performed as side-people with Valerie for 11 years, and recently retired from her group to make time for some of their own music. Wally plays all the bluegrass instruments equally well, and Lisa Kay plays the mandolin, but they really like to put the focus on their vocals, as they love to sing harmony!

They are joined by long-time bandmate and friend Joe Hannabach on bass, and joined for the first time by Dean Phillips on banjo (formerly with Danny Paisley) and Jack Dunlap on guitar (Frank Solivan, Dunlap & Mabe, and a ton of other great acts).

We think you’ll love their driving bluegrass sound!
