“On the night of 15 December 2016, about 100 people walked into an empty building on Tara Street.”

Apollo House had been sitting idle — a NAMA-controlled asset, managed on behalf of the Irish people — while over 6,000 people were homeless. The Home Sweet Home movement changed that, for four weeks. This December marks 10 years since that night. I’ve been writing a play about it.

I’ve been writing a play about a man who walked into Apollo House on the 16th of December 2016.

Not much else to say yet. Just that I’ve been working on something I care about deeply — a story about what happened at Apollo House, told from inside, through the voice of one of the men who was there.

It’s been almost a couple of months, and I’ve just had the chance to view the video from my work in progress performance of Journey to Apollo in the Linenhall Arts Centre Castlebar. Delighted with how it went and the audiences response, it was great to receive such wonderful feedback and suggestions, the engagement was all I could have hoped for.
