T minus 2!!!!

Some photos from yesterday's tech rehearsal. This is when it gets real. The lines are learned, the characters inhabited, and the actors get to explore the world of the play that has been created on stage. They feel the heat of the lamps, and the musical choices colour their mood.

All that is needed now is an audience.

***Dublin Carol - Meet the Cast***

Becky Byrne plays Mary, John Plunkett's estranged daughter. She reappears in John’s life on Christmas Eve after roughly 10 years of separation, with some urgent family news.

Becky Byrne joined the Moat Club two years ago, taking on her first ever acting role in the Christmas Panto Little Red Riding Hood. Since then, she has appeared in Baby Steps and last year’s Christmas Panto, Sleeping Beauty. Becky is delighted to be returning to the Moat stage for Dublin Carol and is looking forward to taking on a new challenge!

We're delighted to see Becky taking on this serious and nuanced role and we have no doubt she will excel.

***Dublin Carol - Meet the Cast***

Michael McHugh plays John Plunkett, the flawed hero of Conor McPherson's play. John's past comes into his present with a visit from his estranged daughter on Christmas Eve.

A long-time club member, Michael is delighted to return to the Moat stage in Dublin Carol. His recent theatre work includes The Comedy Of Errors (St Enda’s Rathfarnham), Hands Across the Sea & Family Album (DLR Lexicon Theatre) and Twelfth Night (St Enda’s Rathfarnham).

We can't wait to see Michael's portrayal of this Dublin man struggling with regrets.

OK, so you have to imagine that they're in the back room of a Dublin funeral home. That's what Michael McHugh (john), Becky Byrne (Mary) and Nick Pearson (Brian) are doing.

Dublin Carol, directed by 13th to 17th October
In Conor McPherson’s poignant drama Dublin Carol, John, a middle-aged undertaker’s assistant, confronts the ghosts of his past on a lonely Christmas Eve. As the day unfolds, John’s interactions with his young co-worker Mark and estranged daughter Mary force him to reckon with the devastating consequences of his alcoholism and the possibility of redemption.

McPherson’s masterful command of dialogue creates a stark, intimate portrait of a man teetering on the edge of hope and despair. Through three carefully crafted acts, Dublin Carol explores themes of addiction, familial bonds, and the weight of regret. The play’s minimalist setting amplifies the emotional intensity of John’s journey, offering a raw and unflinching look at the human capacity for both self-destruction and renewal.

"Two" by Jim Cartwright, directed by Padraic Doyle.

It's so great to reunite these two brilliant actors, Sarah Gallagher and Conor O'Connell, for our one-act circuit competition entry. This dynamic duo was in 'Plaza Suite: A Visitor from Hollywood', also directed by Padraic Doyle, which won the All-Ireland one-act circuit in 2016 - it seems like yesterday!

Sarah and Conor play 10 characters, bringing an entire community to life, in this funny and moving play set in a pub in the North of England.

There is just ONE opportunity to see the play before it heads out on the circuit and that is on Monday October 19th at 8pm.
