***The Odd Couple Female Version by Neil Simon***

If you want to know me, come and live with me. It’s an old saying, the truth of which becomes increasingly apparent to Olive and Florence, friends of long standing and members of an all-girl group of Trivial Pursuit aficionados.

When Florence separates from her husband, her friends are concerned for her fragile state of mind. Olive generously issues an invite to stay with her in her apartment, and the two women embark on a voyage of discovering that what may seem endearing foibles from a distance can become unbearable torments at close quarters.

The women's slide into mutual loathing culminates in a disastrous date night with their neighbours, the hapless Costazuela brothers.

Neil Simon's brilliant reworking of his original play for a female cast is a feast of wit and wordplay with a heart of psychological truth.

***Supporting New Irish Writing***

At the end of a very successful run in our Short Plays for Longer Evenings slot, the Moat Club is proud to have supported and showcased new Irish writing. Both plays, β€˜Dada’ by Frank Houlihan and β€˜Here We Go’ by Gerard O’Shea, emerged from the DLI/ADCI annual playwriting competition.

β€˜Dada’ is a (very) dark comedy and β€˜Here We Go’ a funny but poignant story of a father and son sharing a trip to Italia 90. These were great audience plays, with lots of laughs in these troubled times, moments of nostalgia, recognition, whimsy and above all, a real connection to our humanity.

Thank you, Frank (left) and Gerard.
