Inkwell Film Society presents:

H IS FOR HAWK
Friday, 12thune at 8pm

Docu-drama
2 hours 8 mins
Ticket: €8

Claire Foyplays Helen Macdonald in 2007, a fellow of Jesus College, Cambridge teaching the history and philosophy of science. Helen adores and hero-worships her Dad, the award-winning photographer Alisdair Macdonald, played in the film by Brendan Gleeson - who inculcated in her a love of nature - and when he dies she is utterly distraught. (Guardian review.)

After losing her beloved father, Helen finds herself saved by an unlikely friendship with a stubborn hawk named Mabel. This  film is based on Helen's memoir:

Loss and grief are the emotional landscape of Helen Macdonald’s work (memoir) 'H Is for Hawk'. It tells of her attempts to train a goshawk called Mabel after the sudden death of her father; at once a devastating memoir and an elegant addition to the burgeoning genre of contemporary nature writing. (Guardian article.)

*** Sunday evening & night I going to be a fun one ***

African Drum Circle led by Levi Magyar.

Enter the Circle & let the drum become your heartbeat, a steady rhythm that carries you inward and connects you to something ancient and alive. Guided by skilled hands & shared intention. Each beat becomes a language of the soul - raw, expressive, and deeply meditative.

African Queens and Embodiments Dance Party.

Held in the ancient currents of voice as the African Queens rise in song, weaving harmonies that echo through the body and beyond the mind.

With DJ Fake Rolex and DJ Flipside Selekta, you are invited into a living field of rhythm, where sound becomes pulse and movement becomes prayer, dissolving the edges between you and the whole.

These two events are sure to finish off the festival beautifully.

Bar open 2.30pm - late

"Would you like to hear a story about a man who's tired of life?"
An eccentric lottery winner who lives alone on a remote island tries to make his fantasies come true by getting his favorite musicians to perform at his home.(IMDb) Described in The Guardian by Catherine Bray as "a funny but also melancholy piece of work" - she says it will leave you "wanting your own island, your own gig..." And Harry Guerin of RTÉ has this to say: "The performances are brilliant; it has the best of British humour mixed with lovely songs, and it also says a lot about making sense of the world and ourselves. As for the ending, well, just you wait..." and "...an uplifting cinema experience".
