Emotional Coordinates of Memory

West End Art Studios is delighted to present Emotional Coordinates of Memory, a solo exhibition by Meri Grubic, exploring the relationship between emotion, memory and
space — between what we see and what we carry within us.

Vernissage: Friday, 11 September 18.00
Exhibition running: 12th–27th September
Opening hours: Fridays-Sunday, 12.00–5.00pm

Meri’s work brings together the personal and the collective, place, time and emotion. Coordinates and mathematical graphs become visual systems of order and structure, while carrying a deeper layer of meaning.

While exploring coordinates for this body of work, Meri discovered grid map markings marking real places and distances — including war coordinates recorded shortly before these places became sites of destruction. This discovery became an important part of the work and its reflection on memory, place and human experience.

At the heart of the exhibition, however, is something much quieter: warmth, silence and peace. The faces in Meri’s paintings hold a sense of personal peace and hope — despite everything that has been, and everything that may come.

Remembering the Famine Through Art
West End Art Studios is delighted to welcome an exhibition by the Gilbert Art Group, inspired by the history and legacy of the Great Irish Famine.

Through mixed media and a rich use of imagination, the group has explored one of the darkest periods in Irish history, creating a body of work that reflects on the suffering endured by the Irish people while also highlighting the importance of keeping our heritage and history alive for future generations.

The project has had a profound effect on the members of the Gilbert Art Group, who hope that their work will encourage others to explore their own creativity, engage with Ireland’s history, and continue conversations around the experiences of those who lived through the Famine.

We are pleased to share this thoughtful and important exhibition with the local community and invite you to come and experience the work for yourselves.
