A while back, many of us came together to ask for repairs to one of the ramps in the skatepark, and after a long wait it was eventually sorted. We have always maintained that we had some of the best times skating in that park and we want to make sure that that facility is available and maintained.

Recently, the quarter pipe was damaged and fenced off for an extended period with the core of the ramp being exposed to the weather leading to further damage it has now been removed. There hasn’t been any update or information about what the plan is, so we’re just hoping to get a bit of clarity.

We’d love to know:

Is the quarter pipe going to be replaced?

The skatepark is an important space for young people and families in Loughrea, and we really appreciate any communication on what’s happening next.

Goodnight QBall,

You were such an important part of our most formative years and the inspiration for a lot of us to get our first board. You’re enthusiasm, drive and your laugh made us all want to get better but what’s more to have fun.

Great to see more towns investing in their youth and creating more parks!

We may have had to wait 2+ years for our ramps to be repaired but Galway City have been campaigning for a decade to get decent skateboard facilities for a thriving community and yet have been ignored and pushed aside. This video illustrates some of their frustrations.

While they remain to be unheard by Galway City Council, more and more towns villages and cities continue to invest in concrete skateparks some significantly smaller than even Loughrea. These parks offer a place to go, socialise and learn a new activity/sport.

As we always say not everyone wants to play football, hurling, athletics etc. And they deserve a place to go and express themselves like anyone else.

We urge Galway City Council to invest in and provide professionally created skateboard facilities in the city.

After 2 years we finally have a functional park again.

We encourage anyone with a board to get down and get using the ramps!
Myself and Jordan will post anytime we are heading down to skate and will be available to help anyone who wants to learn!

We would again like to thank Cllr. Shane Curley and Councillor Geraldine Donohue for their help in navigating all of the red tape in order to get this done.

We’re delighted that this is finally coming together!

Just received confirmation that the works on the skate park will be carried out next week and it will be reopened. ✅
