It was the Midlands Fibre Festival in Athlone today.

I spent the whole time catching up with friends, organising wool orders and chatting with so many people!

It was great to finally meet The Spindle Tree and see all of her beautiful spindles.

These are the only photos I took as I was enjoying the day so much. It was fascinating to chat with the guys from 𝓐𝓻𝓭𝓯𝓲𝓷𝓷𝓪𝓷 | 6th generation Mulcahy sons clothier | MR & Co. and hear about the history of the mill.

Handspun singles from Ivy's wool. Hand carded and hand-spun on the Donegal spinning wheel.
I think I might spin a bit on the drop spindle and great wheel for comparison.

It's time for Ivy's wool to enter my research. This is one of two fleeces I will be working with that is from my own sheep.
Back in June, I hand sheared Ivy with blade shears. Her wool is now washed and I have enough dried so far to make rolags and a batt ready to spin on the Donegal spinning wheel.

It's a nice quiet train to Dublin this morning so I can fully immerse myself in reading a few journal articles. My research is heavily influenced by the Céide Coast, especially the Neolithic sites of Céide Fields, Belderrig and Rathlacken.

All of this research will influence yarn design and weave structure in contemporary design.

It was Lacken Tractor Run today! There was such a great turn out of tractors. I counted 75 on my walk around, plus the cars and bikes.

The day was in aid of the Daisy Lodge Children's Cancer Centre and Lacken Community Care.

Week 2 College Update.

I'm really settling into NCAD and love every minute of it!

I was able to join in on an acid dye class on Wednesday and made a very bright charteruse Galway wool yarn.

Has anyone been to Evans Art Supplies in Mettinghouse Lane? I only went in for some card, spent a small fortune on a travel watercolour paint tin and brushes and forgot the card! So now I will have to go back and try not to get distracted.

Using rolags and a short backwards draft, I achieved 32 wraps per inch (WPI) of handspun Galway wool yarn made on the Donegal spinning wheel.

I prefer to leave my yarn to rest either on the bobbin or the swift and will wash it when I am back from Dublin on Thursday.
