I paint for the love of art, because of the whispers from the 19th Century French Impressionists, and ultimately I paint because I must! Almost my entire adult life Lee Tiller I have enjoyed an uninterrupted working relationship with ‘Light’. I have painted since I could hold a brush, and then in my early 20’s as a professional lighting designer, and now at 62 as a professional painter. I adore th
e process of creating art, the anticipation and excitement of a blank canvas and the challenge of placing marks on a flat two dimensional surface in an attempt to convince the viewer that a third dimension exists.”
I believe that art transcends verbal communication. It is a silent conversation, yet forms a connection between two minds that are, as of yet, unknown to each other. The phrase ‘Show don’t Tell’ might be a familiar piece of American colloquialism, but in Art it couldn’t be more honest or truthful.”
My paintings are constructed from flickering impressionist daubs of oil paint and nuanced colour combinations, sometimes layered, other times juxtaposed yet all resonating with a chromatic harmony. I liken it to the rich and full resonance of a twelve string guitar chord. Hidden within my brushstrokes are the reflected colours of nature that might otherwise remain hidden to our jaded 21st Century eyes. Nature is timeless and art gives life meaning.
