President Curtis Storyboard Coordinator, Anna Chung Witt, visited us on a recent trip to Kilkenny, and kindly brought one of the characters from the show to give us all a Monday morning boost...

Anna works with our partners in LA, Green Portal, and worked closely with PRC Director at Lighthouse, Clíodhna Lyons, on Season 1 of the Rick and Morty spin-off series. This was Anna's first time meeting the team in person and we loved showing her around the studio and all the backdrops from our Zoom calls!

Thanks for visiting Anna, we hope you enjoyed your time here.

PS: Gogo Bear is settling into their new home nicely, all our devices are fully charged and our future energy bills thank you 🙏

Congratulations Cartoon Saloon!

Cartoon Saloon were presented with the Trinity European Laureate Award for Culture and Creativity in Dublin on Tuesday, and we were honoured to be in attendance. The award honours individuals or institutions who exemplify the European ideal, and whose creativity, leadership, ideas and vision enriches our shared culture and brings people together.

Co-founders Paul Young, Tomm Moore and Nora Twomey received the special award from Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport Patrick O'Donovan TD, in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the arts and European culture.

Fun fact: the event took place in Trinity College, which is where the book that inspired the Oscar nominated film 'The Secret of Kells' is kept! Cartoon Saloon brought Irish culture and mythology to audiences across the world, so it was the perfect location to receive such an honour.

Cartoon Saloon now joins a distinguished list of past laureates, and their work continues to make Ireland and Kilkenny proud.

Steve McCarthy visited us last week!

Steve is the author and illustrator of The Wilderness, a glorious adventure tale for children set in the great outdoors. It's a book packed with vivid, rich imagery in both its writing and visuals, and when Kelebek Media shared their plans to adapt the book for animation we were delighted to come on board as coproduction partners. The Wilderness is currently in development, so watch this space...

Steve was in town for Kilkenny's Bookville festival, during which he led a story and crafts time for local children centred on this year's theme of Wild and Wondrous Things, and lots of budding artists got to make their own Wilderness artwork. Bookville is running until the 8th of October and there is a lot on the programme for kids and families, so do check out the website if you're local!

Thanks for visiting us Steve!

We are delighted to share that Póg mo Pigeon is nominated in the BEST ANIMATION category of the KURRAK Film Awards 2026!

The awards are part of the Valle de Guadalupe Film Festival which runs this weekend in Baja, California, Mexico with Póg screening on Friday at 8:30am in Casa Kurrack.

We love the manifesto of the festival, which is on a mission to discover, showcase, and promote independent, local, and native filmmakers with the community, while celebrating the cultural traditions and resilience of the land of Guadalupe.

Thanks so much to the jurors for selecting us for this year's festival, we are honoured to be a part of it!

Well done to Clíodhna, Polly, and the Póg team for the nomination.

On a post Cartoon Forum visit to Kilkenny, Toei producer Toshio Yoshikawa was given the grand tour of the city by Nora Twomey.. including a visit to Lighthouse of course!

Here is Toshio in the library with head creative Gilly Fogg.

We usually take a pic of our guests at our lightbox outside but unfortunately the weather wasn't playing ball... so Gilly improvised with the pull-up banner instead 😄

Thanks so much to Toshio and Nora for stopping by!

Kilkenny Animated took place last weekend, and it's hard to believe launch night is already a full week ago!

Before we head into another weekend, we wanted to shout out some of the Lighthouse crew that helped make it happen, both onstage and offstage.

1. Lead animator, Will Wivell, took to the stage for the opening event, Drawing Out the Stories, drawing live alongside other artists as musician Aindrias de Staic played and told stories we 100% believe to be true

2. Next up is Gilly Fogg, head creative, who played a blinder both before and during the weekend, helping to devise and plan the carefully curated programme of events alongside Naoise Nunn and Niamh Herrity, going on camera and on radio multiple times to help the marketing drive and also acting as MC over the weekend!

3. Marty Broski is pictured here onstage during the Zine panel, her second event of the day! Earlier that morning Marty had led a sold-out workshop for teens to show how to create their very own zines, while in the Zine panel she spoke onstage with artists from the Zine Machine collective about all that goes into self-publishing.

4. The winning team from Saturday Night's Animation Pub Quiz - proud to say there is more than one Lighthouse crew member on that team!!

5. Sketching tour leaders, Katie Leadbeater and Hannah Keenan, take a quiet moment to sketch something during Sunday's tours...

6. ...and also managed to get the group together for a quick shot on the steps of the studio! You couldn't have a sketching tour and not include this building after all...

Huge well done to you all for your hard work, and thanks to everyone on the wider team of for all the hard work and putting on such a great weekend.
