Historical Harp Society of Ireland

Historical Harp Society of Ireland Promoting the early Irish harp since 2003. More info. at www.irishharp.org The Historical Harp Society of Ireland brings to life a lost sound world.

Founded in 2003, it leads a rediscovery of Ireland’s illustrious medieval musical instrument, depicted in the national emblem: the early Irish harp. Silent for hundreds of years, the ravishing sound – and the rarely heard music – of the old Irish harp sounds fresh to modern ears but also evokes the farthest reaches of ancient Irish history and culture. The society
* offers year round nationwid

e tuition and Beginners' Discovery Days for adults and children
* hosts an international information service
* has a members' lending and reference library of books and CDs relating to early Irish music, culture and history
* has a collection of student copies of early Irish harps available for rent
* presents the premier annual international summer festival for the instrument: Scoil na gCláirseach—Festival of Early Irish Harp, each August in Kilkenny
