The Return of the Common Crane to Ireland

Join West Clare Wildlife Club for an evening talk with Chris Cullen, Ecology Team Lead at Bord na Móna, exploring the remarkable return of the Eurasian Crane (Grus grus) as a breeding species in Ireland.

The recent story of breeding Eurasian Cranes (Corr) in Ireland is very much that of a returning species. Formerly lost as a breeding bird, the initial breeding attempts by a single pair and then further successful breeding mark the first time in several hundred years that this iconic species is once again part of Irelands breeding avifauna. Chris will explore the breeding story so far and provide insights into the ecology of this fascinating species:

DEAF
Wednesday 4th of March at 7:30pm
Tickets: €7/6

Ángela, a deaf woman, and Héctor, her hearing partner, are in a loving, solid relationship, using sign language and lip reading to communicate. When Ángela becomes pregnant they are both very excited. However, the question of whether their baby will be deaf or hearing charges an unexplored tension between the couple. After a complicated, emotionally intense labour, their daughter, Ona, is born. It is revealed she can hear, forcing Ángela to come to terms with raising a daughter who may not share her experience of the world. As Ona and Hector gravitate towards each other, communicating with their voices, Angela is left feeling frustrated and isolated. Eva Libertad’s debut feature is a tender, moving and brilliantly acted drama.
