In this interview on Galway Bay FM’s Galway Talks, Galway Chamber CEO Karen Ronan spoke with John Morley about the Galway City Council Shopfront Enhancement Scheme 2026 and the positive effect it can have on independent retailers, hospitality businesses, and the wider city centre economy.

Now in its second year, the €275,000 scheme provides funding to help eligible businesses enhance their shopfronts, improve accessibility, celebrate Galway’s heritage, and collaborate with local creatives.

Karen highlighted how initiatives like this support businesses and contribute to Galway’s attractiveness as a destination, creating opportunities for local artists and skilled trades, while strengthening the city’s tourism offering.

Member Spotlight - Uisce Éireann Irish Water

Uisce Éireann has recently commenced a second eight-week public consultation on a long-term plan to ensure the adequate provision of wastewater services for the Galway Metropolitan Area, Athenry, and Moycullen. The first of its kind in Galway, the multi-year Galway Wastewater Strategy will assess all wastewater treatment and network infrastructure in the Galway Metropolitan Area, Athenry, and Moycullen to determine what upgrades will be required to meet the future needs of the population, accounting for economic growth, environmental changes, and climate change.

To further inform stakeholders on our plans and progress to date, a Galway Wastewater Strategy Breakfast Briefing will be held in the Connacht Hotel on Friday, the 12th of June from 8:00 - 10:00 AM, where members of the Uisce Éireann team will be present to answer questions about the Galway Wastewater Strategy, discuss key elements of the project, and facilitate dialogue between our team and members of the local community.
