Kings and Crowns : A Journey Through Poland’s Royal History

Students from Wislawa Szymborska Polish School in Galway will perform a final scene from their play in English.

This performance is part of a larger project, which aims to engage children in an interactive and creative exploration of Polish history, through a series of workshops, incorporating drama elements and art activities. The program will focus on commemorating the coronations of Poland’s first two kings, with particular emphasis on the first coronation, which took place 1,000 years ago.

This historical performance by students re-enacts key historical events and brings Poland’s past to life, on stage. Children will present costumes inspired by royal times, making history engaging and memorable.

Cruinniú na nÓg Galway City is a free day of creativity for ages 0-18 years, provided by Galway City Council in partnership with Youth Work Ireland Galway supported by CreativeIrl and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media

This performance aims to foster a deeper appreciation for Poland’s rich historical heritage and encourage dialogue and exchange.

Introducing our Local Cruinniú na nÓg Ambassador for 2025: Nessa O'Leary. Their role involves promoting Cruinniú to their peers in Galway City.

We asked Nessa some questions about creativity and Cruinniú na nÓg and this is a flavour of what they had to say:

"Creativity is important, I believe that with my whole heart. Every person is creative in some way or another and that is important. There can be this pressure the young people experience due to school that, I believe, is massively improved if you have a creative outlet, like art or music or sport. For me personally, having my acting group is the best and I wouldn't have it any other way."

Nessa will be at the Youth Festival in Father Burke Park on the 7th June. It will be an amazing day.

Over the past few months young people from Galway, Dublin and Belfast have been working closely on a documentary about their shared future. Through a series of exchange trips, visiting each city in turn, the groups have explored themes relevant to their lives, with all of their similarities and differences.

The result of this adventure will be a short documentary made by Matt Faris to be premiered during Cruinniú na nÓg 2025 in Galway City.

This project is made possible through collaboration with Prime Cut Productions and Black Mountain Action Group in Belfast, Ringsend and Irishtown Community Centre in Dublin and Youth Work Ireland Galway and ARD Family Resource Centre ( Ardaun, Roscam and Doughiska.) in Galway. The project is supported by Galway City Council and Dublin City Council and funded by CreativeIrl and the Shared Island Programme. A special thanks to Bobbi-Rai Purdy, Úna Nic Eoin and Nicky Harley for bringing this project to life.
