Beautiful paintings in response to David Hockney’s recent exhibition, Some Very,Very,Very New Paintings Not Yet Shown In Paris at the Annely Juda Fine Art gallery, London by Thursday Art School and Saturday Art school (5-12 year olds). We made these paintings at the start of Spring. They love Hockney’s use of colour and his inverted perspective. Very cool.We are so sad to hear of his passing today. He is always going to be a wonderful inspiration for our art projects. RIP David Hockney.

Kate Hodmon is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Galway city. She holds an MA in Arts in Creative Practice from ATU and a degree in Illustration from The University of Hertfordshire. With a background in theatre, street spectacle and film production, her practice extends beyond the realms of traditional artistic expression.

Kate's interdisciplinary methodologies are applied to create work concerning the psychological theory that; unconscious, automatic processes or defence mechanisms, which serve to protect us from painful emotions and thoughts are created in childhood. These emotional child led defences can still arise when we are triggered by an event that we unconsciously link to a stressful memory. Reactions to the past can occur rather than a reaction to what is front of us.

Her research is informed by the Jungian concept of the shadow self and the psychological ‘void’.

That's a wrap!
Engage's first trip to was a blast. We met so many interesting people and saw so much great art, and had a lot of fun too! It was exciting to see so many Irish spaces - .studios .limerick - participating and to see the health of the artist run scene in the west of Ireland.
We exhibited work by studio and orbital members and all of which was really well received, and the week was all made possible by the hard work and dedication of and our Supermarket expert
Now time to rest and think about next year!

💥News Flash💥Engage Art Studios is pleased to announce our new orbital studio member ✨ Luke Donnelly ✨We are delighted to welcome Luke to our studio community and we look forward to working with him in the future. Céad Míle Fàilte Luke!

Luke Donnelly is a visual artist based in Co.Galway. He is currently finishing up an MFA in NCAD. They are a recipient of the Arts Council Agility Award 2023 and the Galway Arts Centre + Galway Culture Company Bursary 24. Luke's practice work finds form through drawing installation, text, sculpture, moving image
and lecture performance. Stemming from Halberstam's ideas of Q***r practice as ‘a scavenger methodology’, gathered images shape the work. Found images are filtered through the practice, and let the resulting archive shape narratives that move across mediums - through gender and sexuality + non-static ideas of the Other.
He’s interested in acknowledging marginalisation however true and in effect can be weaponised, coupled with other privileges to employ Otherness as armour against
accountability.
"If in my work, a language in which to critique occurs, then I must bend that finger right back
around.”
Within this they are driven by ideas of value that are defined by a dominant social class, a ‘system of hierarchies of agreed upon social worth.’ - how these systems are mediated through a q***r lens & how these systems can dismantle/undermine q***r solidarity.

💥News Flash💥Engage Art Studios is pleased to announce our new orbital studio member ✨ Joyce Tansey ✨We are delighted to welcome Joyce to our studio community and we look forward to working with her in the future. Céad Míle Fàilte Joyce

Joyce Tansey is a painter living between Galway and the Iveragh peninsula in south west Kerry. She graduated from NCAD in the 90’s and attended University of Ulster and DCU as a post graduate. She is currently on the Turps Banana correspondence course.

Joyce sees painting as a way of processing information, allowing cross pollination of memories, dreams, current anxieties etc.

The paintings do not depict particular places, objects or characters but offer an enquiry into the viscous nature of memory, recall and perception.
