Little Irish red fox running past on Clon Road in Ennis.. very timely painting with the governments recent decision NOT to ban fox hunting in Ireland. I have been out walking in this area in the evenings and have seen foxes run across the road, hence why I thought it would be a good spot. Foxes are very clever and versatile animals, are not bothered by cold weather and have amazing hearing. This work is kindly supported by and

Finished this wall yesterday for Active Ennis Ennis Health and Leisure club. They wanted something bright and vibrant that represented the broad spectrum of the local community who uses their pool, gym and come to their classes. I myself have visited the pool there for years with my kids- it’s a great place with lovely friendly staff and a cheerful atmosphere. We are lucky to have this space here in Ennis. See last image for scale. Thankyou to and for supporting and commissioning this work, and to the Ennis leisure team for having me (and for holding my ladder)

Finished this piece this morning, located in front of Ennis Library on the causeway road. The wraparound design covers all sides of the cabinet- I wanted to insert a pop pf bright colour in front of the large bright white library building behind. I think we are hugely fortunate as a town to have this new library- such an investment speaks of our Irish commitment to literature and learning, which is significant when you consider how many libraries over the UK have been closed recently due to budget cuts.

The design has a book theme -the different individuals reading the books reflect the multi-cultural population of Ennis and the wide spectrum of library users, and intends to indicate that the library as a public space is for the benefit of all- young, old, all nationalities and backgrounds. There is a visual suggestion to stained glass, which was inspired by an article I read by the author Caitlin Moran, who described libraries as being ‘cathedrals for the mind’, when lamenting the closure of libraries in the UK and recollecting how significant her local library had been to her childhood.

If you haven’t been in to the library I recommend you head in- the staff are super friendly and helpful. Big thanks to Clare Arts Office for supporting this work and to openeir for providing the electrical cabinet.

Finished this guy last night, on an openeir cabinet located on Barrack St, Clonroad Beg, Ennis. It is titled, predictably, ‘Pigs might fly’ and is designed to bring positivity and colour to a quiet corner of the area. The locals I met while I was painting were approving of the design, and a huge thanks to local resident John who supplied me with cardboard to put over the cabinet when the rain came on- what a legend! Thanks to for supporting this work through their PRISM scheme and to openeir for the electrical cabinet.

Finished this piece last night at Bank Place, Ennis, Co Clare. This cabinet, kindly supplied by openeir, is located directly in front of the Post Office Field, an area designated for wildlife and nature preservation in the middle of Ennis Town.
The birds depicted are Irish Herons, a beautiful native Irish bird that can often be sighted in the Post Office Field and along the River Fergus.
The cabinet design has two intentions: to remind us how fortunate we are to have wildlife like this living locally and to remind us that it’s our job to protect our natural environment and preserve it.
The second element of the design is an echo of an older .space.op cabinet located on Lifford Road, which depicts the native trout found in the river Fergus, with one little blue fish swimming against them all. That little blue fish reminds us it’s ok to be different and swim against the tide. Similarly the blue bird on the front of the Bank Place Box reminds us that difference is ok and to be celebrated.
My thanks to for supporting this work through the Prism scheme and again to openeir for the cabinet.

Finished painting this openeir cabinet today - it was nice to have the subject on hand for reference material. The man himself, Daniel O’ Connell aka the great liberator, is literally around the corner at the top of O’ Connell St, Ennis, Co Clare. The statue was erected in 1867 and my artistic aim was to pull him down off his column, figuratively speaking, and bring him into view of the passers by. Hopefully they will see him and his seagull friends on the cabinet and then look up and make the connection ⬆️ thanks to for supporting this work and to openeir for kindly supplying the cabinet

Finished this lovely project with Derryoober National School, South East Galway, in association with Creative Schools Programme. Before we started the outside mural, which was to be painted on the three sides of the schools boiler room/sports changing room, we- the whole school and I- painted an indoor mural in the main hallway of the school, more on which in my next post. The outside piece was a big project, and to prepare design wise we talked as a school about who would see the mural, what it should evoke about Derryoober as a school, the unique characteristics of the area, the local geography and nature, and more. Painting the mural was a group effort and I’d like to especially thanks 6th class who really rose to the challenge and learned at mural pairing is not a glamorous or easy job :) We developed the design in the classroom and after I’d drafted it onto the walls we went about painting it together. The border around the edge of the design represents the 1km pathway around the edge of the school grounds which was installed during Covid as a local walk for pupils and friends of the school, and which the school uses now on a daily basis. The tree painted on the outside wall of the building is decorated with the hands of all the schools pupils as leaves. A very big thanks to Slavek Kwi, Creative Schools coordinator for inviting me to Derryoober, and to teachers Pádraig and Caroline and the rest of the school team- and especially to all the pupils, for their consistent positive attitude, friendliness, enthusiasm, critical eye and attention to detail. The best compliment was that principal Pàdraig told me the school is now locally known as ‘the school beside the mural.’

Really enjoyed painting this virginmedia cabinet in Market Square, Ennis. Took inspiration from the markets history of buying and selling animals which I researched in Clare Library archives. Added a few cheeky pigeons in as they are the most common animal in the square nowadays.. thanks for all the positive feedback and to for supporting the work and to for supplying the cabinet.

Finished this cabinet today in front of Ennistymon Library, Ennistymon, Co Clare. Every day kids go past on their way to the school down the road so I had plenty of feedback while painting it. I was reassured that the colours were not too bright, actually I was told by the junior infants out on a morning walk that the colours could be brighter.. and everyone understood the meaning behind the work immediately, that your imagination can come to life when you read a book. I was a regular visitor to our local library when I was a kid, and I bring my own kids regularly now. A huge thanks to Ennistymon for having me and for all the positive feedback I received- I really appreciate it. Thanks again to openeir for providing the cabinets and to for supporting the work.
