🦛📖 A world-first achievement, an incredible story and now a beautiful new book! ✨

To celebrate Imani the hippo’s groundbreaking surgery, Dublin Zoo’s very own Emma Vince has written and illustrated Imani Learns to See, a heartwarming book bringing Imani’s remarkable story to life! 💚

If you tuned into the first episode of The Zoo on RTÉ One last night, you’ll have witnessed this incredible story unfold! Following months of careful planning and preparation, Dublin Zoo’s animal care and veterinary teams, working alongside multiple specialists, successfully carried out the world’s first recorded cataract surgery on a common hippopotamus, restoring 18-year-old Imani’s sight in her left eye!

This historic achievement has transformed Imani’s quality of life, helping her move around, run and swim with greater confidence and ease. 🦛

🦍 Happy World Gorilla Day! 🦍

Today, we’re celebrating our incredible western lowland gorillas 💚

Western lowland gorillas are critically endangered, with habitat destruction, poaching, climate change and disease among the threats they face in the wild.

Dublin Zoo has supported the Mbeli Bai Study in the Republic of Congo since 2010, helping researchers collect long-term data on western lowland gorillas and supporting local wildlife education.

Dublin Zoo is delighted to announce the arrival of a precious siamang gibbon baby, born at Dublin Zoo on Sunday, August 30th 🎉🐒💛

The newest member of our gibbon family was born to mum Cahaya and dad Luca and joins big brother Sanuk, who, despite being a whole two years old now, is still very much happiest by mum and dad’s side! 🥰

This little arrival is big news for conservation, as the siamang gibbon is classified as Endangered by the IUCN, making every birth significant for the species.🌿
