The High Hopes Choir are very sad to hear of this news this week, a fellow original Choir member from 2014, that we all affectionately just knew as "Mousey"
John “Mousey” Flynn will be remembered by so many for his warmth, his spirit, and the quiet but unforgettable presence he brought wherever he went. To those of us in the The High Hopes Choir family, Mousey was far more than a choir member — he was part of the heart and soul of an extraordinary chapter in our story.
Back in 2014, during the choir’s very first concert in Christ Church Cathedral, Mousey shared the stage with Lisa Hannigan in a duet that remains etched in the memories of everyone lucky enough to witness it. It was one of those rare moments where music transcended performance and became something deeply human — honest, vulnerable, and filled with connection. Mousey carried that authenticity naturally.
He represented everything the choir stood for: resilience, compassion, humour, and the courage to stand in the light despite life’s hardships. His presence reminded people that behind every struggle is a person with dignity, talent, and a story worth hearing.
Those who knew Mousey will remember his character, his individuality, and the way he could leave a lasting impression without ever demanding attention. He brought sincerity to every rehearsal, every conversation, and every song. In a choir built on hope and belonging, he helped others feel seen.
Though time moves on, moments like that first concert — voices rising together beneath the cathedral ceiling — stay with people forever. Mousey helped create those memories. His voice and spirit became part of something larger than any single performance.
Today, we remember him with sadness, but also with gratitude. Gratitude that he walked alongside us. Gratitude that he shared his voice. Gratitude that he was part of the journey.
May he rest peacefully, and may his memory continue to echo through every song sung in solidarity, empathy, and hope.
