The High Hopes Choir

The High Hopes Choir The High Hopes choir was the subject of a three part documentary called High Hopes which aired on RTÉ television in December 2014.

The High Hopes Choir is based on the lives of people directly effected by homelessness in their ambition to change the perception and experience of Homelessness - created by former RTE Orchestra Conductor David Brophy. It was based on the lives of people touched by homelessness, (whether still homeless, working with homelessness, or are now not homeless anymore) in both Dublin and Waterford. The t

wo choirs were created by former principal conductor of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra - David Brophy. The result, according to David, saw the singers ‘reach beyond the stars’, recording a version of Kodaline’s High Hopes with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra which they performed live on The Late Late Show resulting in reaching #1 in the charts; receiving vocal advice from chart-topper Ed Sheeran, former Westlife star Shane Filan and The Voice of Ireland’s coach Bressie; and performing with Lisa Hannigan, Brian Kennedy and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra at a charity gala concert in Christchurch Cathedral, Dublin. The show was repeated on RTE in May 2015 and saw the single re-enter the charts at #1.

The High Hopes Choir are very sad to hear of this news this week, a fellow original Choir member from 2014, that we all affectionately just knew as "Mousey"

John “Mousey” Flynn will be remembered by so many for his warmth, his spirit, and the quiet but unforgettable presence he brought wherever he went. To those of us in the The High Hopes Choir family, Mousey was far more than a choir member — he was part of the heart and soul of an extraordinary chapter in our story.

Back in 2014, during the choir’s very first concert in Christ Church Cathedral, Mousey shared the stage with Lisa Hannigan in a duet that remains etched in the memories of everyone lucky enough to witness it. It was one of those rare moments where music transcended performance and became something deeply human — honest, vulnerable, and filled with connection. Mousey carried that authenticity naturally.

He represented everything the choir stood for: resilience, compassion, humour, and the courage to stand in the light despite life’s hardships. His presence reminded people that behind every struggle is a person with dignity, talent, and a story worth hearing.

Those who knew Mousey will remember his character, his individuality, and the way he could leave a lasting impression without ever demanding attention. He brought sincerity to every rehearsal, every conversation, and every song. In a choir built on hope and belonging, he helped others feel seen.

Though time moves on, moments like that first concert — voices rising together beneath the cathedral ceiling — stay with people forever. Mousey helped create those memories. His voice and spirit became part of something larger than any single performance.

Today, we remember him with sadness, but also with gratitude. Gratitude that he walked alongside us. Gratitude that he shared his voice. Gratitude that he was part of the journey.

May he rest peacefully, and may his memory continue to echo through every song sung in solidarity, empathy, and hope.

As we step into a new year, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported us throughout 2025 — for listening, standing with us, and believing in the power of voices that challenge assumptions and open hearts.

As the year turns, our purpose remains unchanged: - To help change society’s perception of homelessness.

Not through statistics or slogans, but through humanity, empathy, and lived experience — reminding us all that homelessness is not an identity, but a circumstance.

Here’s to a new year shaped by compassion, courage, and voices rising together.

Happy New Year from all of us at The High Hopes Choir 🤍🎶

Remembering Sr. Stanislaus Kennedy – A True Champion of Compassion

Today, we join so many across Ireland in mourning the loss of Sr.Stanislaus Kennedy, a woman whose life and work changed the landscape of homelessness and social justice in this country forever.

As the founder of Focus Ireland Sr. Stan’s belief in the dignity and potential of every person inspired countless lives — including all of us in

From the very beginning, Sr. Stan was one of our greatest supporters. She attended our performances, encouraged our members, and never failed to remind us how powerful our voices — and our stories — truly are.

In 2020, we were deeply honoured when Sr. Stan invited the choir to be part of a documentary celebrating 'Being Stan'. She spoke with warmth and pride about the choir, saying how much she loved what we stood for — a message of hope, humanity, and belonging.

What made Sr. Stan truly unique was her unwavering vision that homelessness was not simply about housing — it was about belonging. Long before it became common language, she spoke of the emotional and spiritual dimensions of home: safety, community, and purpose. She refused to let statistics define people, insisting instead on seeing the individual — the story, the human being — behind every circumstance. Her courage to challenge systems, her empathy that transcended policy, and her ability to bring faith and activism together made her one of the most transformative voices in Irish social care.

Sr. Stan’s compassion and courage have left a lasting legacy. She showed Ireland what it means to stand beside those who are often unseen, and to do so with grace, empathy, and unwavering belief in people’s potential to rebuild their lives.

We remember her today with gratitude, admiration, and love.
Rest in peace, Sr. Stan — and thank you for believing in us.
